Will MNIK get a historic opening?

The current talk of town is Karan Johar’s ambitious film My Name is Khan . Karan gets back to direction after 4 years ( Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehnaa was his last). The theme of the film has already created much controversy from Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at the New Jersey’s Newark airport to the off late protest by political parties like Shiv Sena and more recently even the Vishwa Hindi Parishad joining the bandwagon. However police have ensured protection and security for the sound release of the film.

Meanwhile, since about a week or so spoiler SMSes are doing the rounds, which claim to reveal the suspense of the film. While it seems to be a nasty rumour, the viral effect of the SMS that is spreading through mobile phones across the country is keeping My Name is Khan into constant public speculation.

Add to it, several special screenings of the film have been arranged for industry people and celebs who have watched the film have started raving about it like anything. Friends of KJo including names like Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh and many others have given a thumbs up to the film on their social networking profiles. Call it a mutual admiration society or a publicity act for the film, My Name is Khan has certainly gained brownie points through word-of-mouth (or should we call it word-of-facebook?)

Some publications have already come out with the film’s reviews and expectedly it’s quite positive. At the same time there is also a certain section of people who have ridiculed the film and the tackling of a sensitive subject like this on social networking websites. So it really needs to be seen whether the film is as great as it promises to be. Come Friday and we will come to know. But rest assured there’s no denying to the fact that My Name is Khan will get a historic opening.

Again Karan Johar has smartly chosen to release the film on a holiday. Friday is Maha Shivratri and a public holiday in most sectors. Moreover releasing a love story in the Valentines Week (February 14 is on Sunday) should surely act in the film’s favour.
