Minister of State for external Affairs Shashi Tharoor has backed actor Shah Rukh Khan for speaking up against the Shiv Sena.
Tharoor tweeted, “Well said, SRK!” to the actor’s remark “Sad, my statements are seen as a stand against a group instead of a stand for myself and my individuality.”
Tharoor added, “Banning is not the solution. We must win the battle of ideas. India's pluralism must be defended and promoted as superior to bigotry.” Asked if he believed if Mumbai was for all Indians, he responded, “Yes, of course. India for all Indians!” On a question whether it was possible to to change the idealogy of “people like the Thackerays”, he said, “Perhaps not, but we can render them irrelevant. If majority votes for pluralist politics, bigots will see no profit in intolerance.”
