Bollywood is Shahrukh Khan’s fair weather friend, Fans are best ever fore,
The who and who of Bollywood gathered under one roof recently and had a gala time with Shahrukh Khan bringing the house down along with Shahid Kapoor. I’m talking about the Star Screen Awards. That was Bollywood in happy times.
It’s sad to know that Bollywood changes it’s colour too soon when adversity strikes. The pity is that, Shahrukh, who has been entertaining the film fraternity for a long time now, has been left all alone to fight the Shiv Sena.
In fact, people in the film industry seem to have gone hidden following the threat sent by the Shiv Sena against Shahrukh for backing the Pakistani cricketers in the IPL and making statement that Mumbai is for all Indians.
Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan were amognst the first to speak out in support of Shahrukh but they went silent after the Shiv Sena sent out warning waves, threatening to ban the release of My Name is Khan if Shahrukh doesn’t apologise. Ironically, Amitabh went a step further to appease the Shiv Sena by inviting Bal Thacheray to the special screening of his film Rann.
Farhan Akhtar is an exception, who spoke in public, encouraging the people to watch the film. He added that he would lend his support to Shahrukh, Kajol and Karan Johar. Director Tarun Mansukhani too has asked everyone in the film industry to stay united in the crisis.
Till date, film personalities like Preity Zinta, Mahesh Bhatt, Anupam Kher, Ranvir Shorey, Konkona Sen Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, music composer Vishal Dadlani and director Anubhav Sinha have come out in support of Shahrukh in Twitter. But the big question is, why these people didn’t dare to come out in the open and fight injustice instead of tweeting that rarely reaches the general public?
Shahrukh is a one-man army at the moment – standing strong by refusing to bow down to the demands of the Shiv Sena to apologies for the stand that he thinks is right. And Bollywood is a sort of fair weather friend that comes together at good times and vanishes at bad times. They seem to enjoy watching the posters of their friend being pulled down to the dust.
Sadly, other film personalities too will face the same fate if they bump into such crisis. You like it or not, that is Bollywood for you!
