Director Karan Johar on why he made "My Name Is Khan"

"My Name is Khan" director Karan Johar talks about what inspired him to make the film, which is a big departure from the usual Bollywood fare.

Karan Johar is easily recognized as one of Bollywood's youngest and most successful stars. As a director, actor, producer and celebrity icon, Johar has shown India and the world that talent and passion can conquer all obstacles in India, where boundaries that have existed for generations run deep. Due in no small part to his achievements in the entertainment industry, in 2007, Johar was chosen as one of 250 Global Young Leaders by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum 2006.
Rizvan Khan, the hero in "My Name Is Khan," bases his life on two righteous principles: he cannot tell a lie and he cannot hide his faith. Both of these prove dangerous for a Muslim with Aspergers syndrome travelling in America after 9/11. The real-world story of "My Name Is Khan" is as fascinating and poignant as the story told in the movie.
