SRK, Kajol win best actor & Karan the best Director of Filmfare Award for the film "MNIK"

Shah Rukh Khan, the heartthrob of millions of bollywood lovers, won his eighth best actor trophy for Karan Johar’s magnum opus ‘My Name Is Khan at the glittering fifty-sixth Filmfare awards function.

Kajol, who played the female lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the same film, also got the best actor award in female category. Karan Johar, the ace filmmaker and a close friend of King Khan, received the award for best direction of the same flick.

It may be recalled that ‘My Name is Khan’ is a sensitive film which talked about universal brotherhood through the character of SRK, who played a challenged Rizwan Khan based in the US. The sensitivity that was brought out by the SRK in this character and then in the film, won him the award.

However, it does not mean that Shah Rukh Khan’s bĂȘte noir Salman Khan’s film ‘Dabangg’ went unnoticed. In fact, Salman Khan’s blockbuster won the award for best film in popular category, making Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan proud.

Then, the lead actor Sonakshi Sinha, who played Salman Khan’s love interest in the flick, went with the award of the best debutant (female) of the year. However, in the male category debutant award was won by Ranveer Singh for his performance in Yashraj Films’ ‘Band Baaja Baraat’.

Vidya Balan, who played the character of a feisty rural lady in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Ishqia’, won the critic’s best actor award in the female category. Similarly, ‘Udaan’ was declared to be the best film in critic’s category, while best actor award went to veteran bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor for his pioneering role in ‘Do Dooni Chaar’.

Another highlight of the function was the cute scene of Shah Rukh Khan courting sizzling Madhuri Dixit on the stage. Why Shah Rukh Khan is known as King of Romance was amply clear with the way of wooing Ms Dixit on the podium.

Then there was touching moment when doyen of Indian cinema Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan felicitated legendary Amitabh Bachchan for completing his forty years in the tinsel town.

The show was hosted by new heartthrobs Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. They kept the audience in splits with their witty one-liners and funny acts. However, Ranbir Kapoor’s Shah Rukh act and Imran’s Salman Khan’s act took the cake among all their performances.

SHAH RUKH’S CHANGING EQUATIONS! NOT STARRING IN KARAN’S NEXT FILM… JOINING HANDS WITH SAJID

One of the necessary outcomes in an actor’s journey to superstardom is the building of a comfort zone of people around oneself as none likes to be lonely at the peak. In Bollywood’s terminology this is known as the making of a camp around a star. Ideally, everyone would want to work in a friendly atmosphere with people one is close to. Stars too are no exception, but given the massive ego that accrues onto them courtesy their larger-than-life calling, they perhaps are more comfortable with a few more assenting voices around them.

For years, Shah Rukh Khan too has nurtured and maintained a similar work environment. Rarely one has seen the actor venture too far, to accommodating untested filmmakers opting instead to work with friends like Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra and until a while ago Farah Khan as his directors. Occasionally, when he did submit his talent to a different director in the recent past, it has always been for a home production.

However, call it changing times or changing perspectives in the superstar’s viewing of things, some of SRK’s recent moves however indicate that he is back in the open, experimenting with different directors again. The first indication was good friend and filmmaker Karan Johar’s recent, very quiet announcement of his next directorial venture kicking off with two newcomers. Of course he added that Shah Rukh would be the film’s co-producer. And no discord notes should be read here either in the equations of these two still thickest of industry buddies.

However, time and again Karan had been known to keep on stating that he would never ever think of directing a film without SRK in it. Farah Khan too had been harping on a similar line for years now, until Tees Maar Khan happened with the subsequent fall out hardly even being history. SRK and Karan as we mentioned however remain pals as ever. But the event’s happening was opened to debate speculations on whether it marks the beginning of Karan considering other alternate star options in the future for his subsequent films.

The writing on the wall for those who can see has been quiet evident with Dharma Productions’ casting and projects of late. There was a time when even if a Dharma film was not directed by Karan, as in the case of Kaal or Kal Ho Naa Ho, SRK still had a visible presence in it. While he did a song for Kaal, his indeed was a more influential part in Nikhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho than its lead pair of Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. A Karan Johar direction of course could never be thought without SRK, their four films’ (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan) success rate being a credible testimony. That’s why when Karan announced his next directorial venture with two new faces, it left many surprised.

Simultaneously happened another development with SRK agreeing to do a film with Vishal Bharadwaj, where the bigger surprise was the fact that it was being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Incidentally, Sajid happens to be one of Shah Rukh’s current bĂȘte noire Salman Khan’s closest friends.

Moreover, Vishal Bharadwaj wasn’t a director with whom SRK has had a very cordial past record. Case in point is an incident that happened couple of years back before Kaminey. According to a source close to the director, “Vishal had sent a script to Shah Rukh expressing the desire to work for him. Shah Rukh had sat on it indefinitely without any response and when Vishal insisted on a response, he had said that the script hadn’t interested him enough. An upset Vishal had then asked Shah Rukh to return the script to him leading to a major showdown between the two.” Things however changed for the better, when recently SRK publicly expressed a desire to work with industry’s new and talented directors like Vishal Bharadwaj, whom he named in his wish list. Vishal reacted to SRK’s favourable review of him as an olive branch from the Khan and both started discussing the possibility of doing a film together.

Around the same time Sajid Nadiadwala had brought the rights of Chetan Bhagat’s latest bestseller Two States for a film adaptation. But when Vishal showed an interest in doing the film with Shah Rukh in the lead, a new problem cropped for Sajid. Being close to Salman and his family he didn’t want to let go his friendship and upset the Khan-daan over a mere film project, even if it was with SRK. Though Shah Rukh told Vishal that he had no issues working with Sajid as a producer of his film leaving the ball on his court regarding if he wanted to work with him or not, Sajid however went to Salman for a go ahead before making any official commitment to SRK. According to a friend of Sajid, “Salman readily gave him the go ahead saying, ‘It’s a different story that I and Shah Rukh don’t get along well, but fact is that he is one of the industry’s biggest stars and doing a film with him will be beneficial to you and your company.’”

Needless to add, Salman’s accommodating attitude was in complete contrast to the way SRK had reacted to Farah Khan’s decision to do Tees Maar Khan with Akshay Kumar. Immediately after voicing her decision Farah was unceremoniously ejected out of SRK’s
inner circle.

Coming back to Two States, Shah Rukh will start shooting for the film next year. Touted as another of his ambitious projects it will not only have him starring in the lead but also joining hands with Sajid Nadiadwala and his company as a co-producer. Now wonder who’s next on Khan’s list to win over in a season of new beginnings and sorting of old misunderstandings.

No "Ra.One" without SRK

Director Anubhav Sinha is pleased about Ra.One being one of the most awaited films of this year. No wonder he admits to feeling a strange mix of emotions. “The anxiety created by responsibility is what people thrive upon. Even though anxiety is considered a negative term, I enjoy the challenge to deliver,” he enthuses, unperturbed by the low performance of his last film, Cash.

Instead, he appreciates the fact that SRK agreed to not only act in his superhero fantasy film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal among others, but also backed it as a producer. “If I make a good film, that doesn’t mean my next will be as good or better. The same rule applies in the case of a bad movie,” he shrugs. Sinha recalls sending Khan a text message to narrate the story of Ra.One. “I wrote to him that I had this story and I wouldn’t develop it if he wouldn’t be on board. Without SRK, Ra.One wouldn’t have been made,” he reiterates.

Robotics
Reports that spoke of the sky-rocketing budget of the film also made claims of similarities its story line had with Shankar’s Robot, toplining Rajnikanth. “Robot released on October 1 and we finished shooting Ra.One on October 11. So I don’t know where that has come from. And to insinuate that SRK stole the idea of Robot to makeRa.One is not only an insult to SRK, but also to the people who suggest this notion.”

He further asserts, “Anyone who reports such stories should first understand the meaning of Rs 100 crore. When you spend that kind of money on a film, you want only the best.”

On being told that the train sequence in Ra.One does indeed look similar to Robot, Sinha refers to the day when he narrated that scene to SRK.

“This is before Robot released. Shah Rukh laughed when I told him of a train sequence. He pointed out that every superhero film has a train sequence. Be it Superman, Batman, Spiderman or even Hulk, they all saved a train,” he explains and wonders, “What am I supposed to do now? Delete the train sequence in Ra.One?”

Sinha reveals that he and SRK have a good laugh over the stories about Ra.One that have been reported in various media.

“If the similarity to Robot was absurd, we were most amused by the news that the costume was made of rubber and cost $1 million each (R 4.5 crore), and there were 27 such costumes,” he laughs. “Hello, 27 costumes worth $1 million each would mean $ 27 million! Just for the costumes! Yes, the costumes are expensive, but not as expensive as has been reported.”

Regaining his calm, he tells us that he and Khan are both amused and happy with all the speculation going around in the media about Ra.One. “We’re pleased to see that people are shocked. In spite of all the seemingly dangerous action, high-end visual effects, huge budget and everything that it has, Ra.Oneis a complete family film,” he concludes.

I look as good as Aishwarya: Ranbir
Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor have a hilarious act in store. While Imran plays Hrithik Roshan from Guzaarish, Ranbir becomes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan complete with a big flower in his hair and a long red ghagra kind of skirt.

Imran seems to have taken his magician role very seriously and when we asked if marriage has changed him he couldn't agree more. "Yes, marriage has changed me. I have become more dramatic now", said the actor.

Also, when we asked Imran what is the one magic trick that he would like to play on Ranbir, he replied, "I would like to wax his chest." On the other hand, Ranbir is super excited about his look of Aishwarya and declared, "I look as good as Aishwarya." You bet!

Sonu completes 20 years in the industry
Sonu Niigam took the audience to a different level when he started his live act by crooning the heart warming theme song from Titanic – My heart will go on. It was undoubtedly an awesome start. The magic in his voice like always, didn't fail to impress and like the original song visual, the stage lit up with aqua marine lights. The singer had a special reason to perform live as it's a special day for him as he completes 20 years in the industry. While performing, he came down the stage to touch Yash Chopra's feet as the veteran director is the one who gave Sonu a break.

It's also a special year for Yash Chopra as he completes 51 years in the industry. He said, "I think only movies. I have no other ambition." Sonu Niigam also sang the song Ae Meri Johra Jabeen in honour of Yash Chopra.

Sonu then went and greeted Farah Khan with a warm hug. He fondly recalls the time in Dubai where Farah paid his taxi fare. Dedicated to Farah, Sonu croons 'Kiska Hai Yeh Tumko Intezar Main Hoon Na' and Farah joins in too. Both then went up to Anu Malik and the 3 of them jam up and complete the song. Then they all go up to David Dhawan and sing 'Jeene Ke Hai Char Din'.

Sonu now goes up to Rekha and Compliments her. She shares her beauty tips. Sonu asked her how do you feel that everyone loves you and she promptly replied, "But those ones you want to be loved by do not love you." Her reply stunned the audience. And everybody knew whom she was hinting towards. Rekha and Sonu then break into the song 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai'. Once again, Rekha stuns the audience by singing so well.

After Rekha, it's SRK's turn. He says, "I owe a lot to singers. Thanks Sonu." Both sing the song Kal Ho Na Ho and SRK also does his trademark steps.

Sonu then heads towards Shatrughan Sinha who goes down memory lane and gives some tips to young stars, "Prove yourself better than the best or prove yourself different than the rest - Shotgun's mantra to youngsters. They both sing Aaj Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

OFF-STAGE TIT-BITS
I look as gorgeous as the Filmfare Trophy: Mugdha
Mugdha Godse walked the red carpet in a gold gown designed by Swapnil Shinde and said, "I am the most gorgeous tonight. I myself look like the Filmfare trophy!" The lady also posed standing like the trophy. We wonder who will get to take this one home!

I'm sleeping with the Black lady tonight: Prachi Desai

THE RED CARPET
Hrithik & Madhavan share cold vibes
Hrithik Roshan and R Madhavan walked in the venue around the same time. The two stars were just a few steps away from each other but didn't even greet each other. We wonder the reason behind this cold vibe!

New hottie in Ayan's life!
Ayan Mukherjee walked in with Katrina Kaif's younger sister Isabelle. While all eyes were on the gorgeous lady who looks very similar to her elder sibling, Ayan took the lead and started introducing her to everyone. Hmm... we see something hot brewing there!

SRK welcomes Arbaaz-Malaika
Arbaaz Khan has just walked in with his sexy arm candy Malaika Arora. Talking about Dabangg and Salman he said, "Salman is not here tonight as he is shooting. And it doesn't matter to me if he wins or not. For me he is the winner. And then we have got so many nominations so it's an achievement in itself. We are not here to applaud just ourselves but also applaud other's work from the film fraternity."

We asked Malaika what can we look forward to after Munni and she said, "These things are not planned. They just happen impromptu."

Once inside the auditorium, Arbaaz and Malaika were greeted by Shah Rukh Khan who hugged them very warmly.

Preity looks gorgeous in red sari
Preity Zinta is looking beautiful in a red sari designed by Manish Malhotra. The actress is excited and is cheering for all her friends nominated this year. When asked who her pick is for the Best Actor Award, Preity says, "Whoever is best will win." Now that's as diplomatic as Preity can get who doesn't want to choose between SRK and Salman, both of whom she is very close to.

Hottest Dhobi in town
The hottest Dhobi in town Pratiek Babbar has arrived with his aunt. While he gets to take it easy this year, Pratiek is expecting a lot of nominations next year for his recently released film 'Dhobi Ghat'.

Another sensational debutante of the year is Shraddha Kapoor along with her mom at the red carpet.

This girl certainly won't leave her Sabyasachi alone.. Spotted in one is Vidya Balan on the red carpet.

The Diva of all eras.. Rekha in her patent sari and red lipstick screams panache at the red carpet!

our Sheila a.k.a Katrina Kaif walks the red carpet this year looking like a dream.

Ravishing in black.. RaveenaTandon mesmerizes one and all with her charm!

Hrithik Roshan enters with his beautiful wife Suzanne Roshan. In contrasting colors, both make a smashing pair

Sonakshi Sinha making the statement in green at the red carpet along with mommy dearest.

Sexy Sam's looking stunning in her beige and green gown! This girl surely knows how to set the night ablaze.

The sexiest guest on red carpet till now happens to be the bubbly actress Genelia D'Souza. She is wearing a backless purple Versace gown with high slits which is making her look stunning and sensuous. Interestingly Sridevi who is wearing the same coloured gown is looking outstandingly seductive in her new lean avatar.

It's the first time after marriage that Mrs. Avantika Imran Khan has walked the Filmfare red carpet. The weight loss has worked wonders on the biwi and she is looking gorgeous in a peach dress. However, the lady didn't have hubby dear accompanying her. And no no, Imran Khan isn't giving the Awards night a miss. He will be actually taking centre stage with Ranbir Kapoor as the host of the grand event. The young Khan is already in and has been rehearsing his act with Ranbir.

Pakistani artist Ali Zafar has arrived on the red carpet along with his beautiful wife. While the singer made his acting debut last year with 'Tere Bin Laden', he is rooting for Ranveer Singh in the Best Debut Actor category. Ranveer Singh made his debut with Yash Raj Film's 'Band Baajaa Baaraat'.

Shriya Saran has arrived looking pretty as ever. The lady is hoping to have a great time at the Filmfare night. Though she didn't have a Bollywood release in the past year, she is looking forward to Deepa Mehta's Midnights Children in 2011.

Neha Dhupia has come to the Filmfare Awards after six long years. The actress who is looking hot as ever in a black & grey dress doesn't have any hot arm candy with her this time around. She has walked in with her mother instead, proving her single status! Talking about her fashion tip, Neha says, "I think its best to keep it very simple especially if you know that you'll have to be seated in an auditorium for four long hours."

It is surprising to see Kalki Koechlin arrive on the red carpet all alone. She made a grand entry last year with boyfriend Anurag Kashyup and certainly Kalki is missing Anurag this year. Expectedly, she is cheering for 'Udaan' produced by Anurag Kashyup, which has received maximum nominations this year. When asked about her plans on this Valentines Day she says, "We both are shooting separately. Nevertheless we will connect through Skype".

Debutant actress Sandeepa Dhar is looking pretty in her lavender strapless gown. But before she could flaunt her lovely gown on the red carpet some guest stepped on it and the actress lost her balance. Thankfully the 'Iss life Mein...' actress regained her balance in a second. A huge fan of Hrithik Roshan, Sandeepa said, "I am cheering for Hrithik tonight and wish that he wins the award for Guzaarish."

Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap has just arrived. The director, who hit the bull's eye with his very first film, is hoping that his film bags a few awards at the most awaited Filmfare Awards night. Talking about the year 2011, Kashyap reveals that he has no release coming up in the coming year but he says, "Wait for 2012. I'll have a release then. I am not sure what kind of film it will be and on what subject. But I'll definitely have a release." Ask him about Dabangg 2 and pat come the reply, "Most definitely, I will be directing the Dabangg sequel."

While celebs make headway to Yashraj Studios to attend the 56th Idea Filmfare Awards, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit have already reached the venue for a final rehearsal for their special act. Hottie Priyanka Chopra is here too, getting ready to put up a sizzling act.

The red carpet has been laid out, the stage has been set and the night is finally here, when the shiniest of the stars will head towards Yashraj Studios in Mumbai at the most awaited 56th Idea Filmfare Awards.

Like every year, Filmfare Awards this time too has a special attraction that will have guests and audiences in awe. The award night brings together the gorgeous actress Madhuri Dixit and the awesome Shah Rukh Khan together to perform on some of their most loved numbers together.

The two stars have been taking time out from their 'Don 2' and 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' schedules to rehearse for their act. The two are set to perform on a few songs from their film 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' and 'Devdas'.

A source from the sets of Jhalak... revealed, "Madhuri mam is so happy and excited about her Filmfare act with Shah Rukh. It's going to be a delight and all of us at Jhalak are looking forward to it."

It's no news that Madhuri and Shah Rukh are very fond of each other. While the lady maintains that SRK is the best co-star she has ever worked with, for Khan, Madhuri remains the one and only Bollywood diva.

The great bond between the two actors has also transformed into a wonderful chemistry on screen and we are sure, watching them come together on the stage for 56th Idea Filmfare Awards will be a treat no one will want to miss. The award will be held on 29th January, 2011 in Mumbai and will be aired on Sony Television on 6th February, 2011.

HC throws out 'frivolous' petition against SRK

The Bombay High Court today dismissed a PIL against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for alleged violation of construction norms as "frivolous" and imposed a cost on the petitioner for wasting its time.

Activist Simpreet Singh had filed a PIL against the actor alleging that a building, an extension of his bungalow "Mannat", a heritage property, had been constructed in gross violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and other rules.

A division bench of Justice P B Majmudar and A Sayed threw out the PIL after observing that the petitioner had targeted the film star only for publicity.

"There are so many buildings in the same line as Shah Rukh's building. Why have you (petitioner) taken an objection against only this building? Simply because he is a film star?," the bench asked.

According to the petition, the place where the building stands was reserved for an art gallery. The state government, however, informed the court that the reservation was cancelled in 2000 itself. Shah Rukh had purchased the land in 2003 and began construction in 2006.

Shah Rukh Khan on 'India First'

Shah Rukh Khan to be the first celeb guest on 'India First'...

There's a new couch in Bollywood. Don't get us wrong. All we mean is that another chat show will hit the television screens tonight on Zee News. And the host this time is Shaina NC - a lady who is not just a fshion designer, but also a politician and activist.

Shah Rukh Khan will be her first guest. So what's the USP about this chat show? For starters, it'll feature celebrities from different fraternities - sports, politics, entertainment, business. Second, Shaina will interview them on their personal couches (read: from their homes!). Last but not the least, 'India First' will have the popular celebs speak about their vision for India.

The other guests who will grace this chat show are: Leander Paes, Nitin Gadkari, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Leander Paes, Mohan Bhagwat, P. Chidambaram, Kumarmangalam Birla.

Now it's Prof Shah Rukh for Karan Johar

Box-office moneyspinner set to produce and star in director's 'Student of the Year' project; likely to play a professor

Shah Rukh Khan will play a significant role in Karan Johar's next film, according to sources close to the production.

The director, who is launching Mahesh Bhatt's daughter in "Student of the Year", has ramped up old friend Khan's performance from a cameo to a much bigger role, most likely as a professor. Khan is also the film's producer.

"Rumours about SRK acting in KJo's next had been doing the rounds but Karan's constant silence about the film started giving people the impression that SRK was only planning to produce the film," the Times of India quoted an unnamed source as saying.

"But actually, both SRK and Karan are co-producing the film, which will launch newcomers Varun Dhawan , Siddarth Malhotra and Aaliya Bhatt. SRK will play the role of one of the professors in the college. The role will not be limited to a cameo; it will be full-fledged one," the source said.

Johar is reportedly taking a month-long break to travel abroad, where he hopes to finish the script of the movie and flesh out Khan's character.

Shahid Kapoor 'rejects SRK comparisons'

Shahid Kapoor has said that he is not worthy of being compared to more experienced Hindi film stars.

The 36 China Town actor told The Times of India that such comparisons are not appropriate.

Kapoor commented: "I feel terrible about the comparisons with everybody because I feel I am really undeserving of being compared to someone like a Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan or any of these people who have had such achievements."

The Delhi-born actor, who has been frequently compared to Khan since his debut in Ishq Vishq, said that he has struggled to get to where he is now.

"There's a long way for me to go and I don't want that pressure on me, frankly. Like I said, it's not easy when you don't have anyone backing you," revealed the former dance instructor.

The actor will next be seen in Mausam opposite Sonam Kapoor.

Kajol honoured with 'Padma Shri' award

Kajol has been awarded the 'Padma Shri' for her contribution to Hindi film.

The Bengali actor becomes the second-youngest person ever to be presented with India's fourth-highest civilian award.

"It's an honour and a pleasure when you are selected for the 'Padma Shri' and I thank all those who thought me worthy of it," she told IANS.

The 35-year-old star, who last appeared in Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan, added: "I am very, very happy with the way this year has started."

The actress debuted at the age of 17 in Bekhudi, before securing commercial success with the psychological thriller Baazigar alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty.

Shah Rukh in KJo's next

In our report dated November 29, 2010 on Karan Johar launching Mahesh Bhatt's daughter in his next film, we told you that SRK was likely to play a cameo in the film. Not only will SRK co-produce KJo's film Student Of The Year, he will also play a significant role in the film.

In fact, Karan, who is taking a monthlong break to go overseas and finish the script of this film, plans to work on SRK's character.

So all rumours about KJo working without his best friend Shah Rukh Khan for the first time in his next directorial, can now safely be put to rest.

Our source said, "Rumours about SRK acting in KJo's next had been doing the rounds but Karan's constant silence about the film started giving people the impression that SRK was only planning to produce the film. But actually, both SRK and Karan are co-producing the film, which will launch newcomers Varun Dhawan , Siddarth Malhotra and Aaliya Bhatt. SRK will play the role of one of the professors in the college. The role will not be limited to a cameo; it will be full-fledged one."

Apparently, a perfect outline of Shah Rukh's character in the film will only be ready by the time KJo returns from his month-long trip. We sent a text message to Karan but he chose not to reply.

King in tights!

Shah Rukh Khan, who will be seen in two of the year’s biggest releases, his home production RA.One, and Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2, had just one release last year, friend and filmmaker Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan. The actor often found it frustrating and tiresome to be at home, nursing an injury that he suffered while filming My Name Is Khan.

“I had three screws inserted in my body due to the shoulder injury. Recovery wasn’t exactly speedy. It took me six-eight months to resume work. I missed being in the studios at that time,” sighs Khan, backstage at the recently concluded Apsara Awards. “On several occasions, I thought that I should start on a new film, but Don 2 and RA.One required physical agility, and I wasn’t in great shape at that point. But now, when both films are near completion, I will take on more work.”

The actor, before even making his superhero entry on the big screen, says he is a hit with his kids, Aryan and Suhana. “It’s heart-warming that they feel their daddy is their superhero. They adore me and it’s one of the nicest feelings to have,” says Khan with a dimpled smile. “I run around in tights and underwear at home. When someone says that RA.One is for kids, I tell them it’s not just for them, it’s for elders too. I’ve made the film for my kids and for myself, because I’m still a child at heart.”

Khan’s superhero fantasy will arrive in cinema halls in October. However, right in the beginning of the year, trade pundits have put it atop the list of the most awaited. “It’s one of my most ambitious projects by far. It’s a family’s story, about a father and a son,” says the actor. “The bad guy is Raavan because according to Hindu mythology, he possessed bad vibes. The good guy is Jeevan because he gives life to everyone.”

The actor-producer credits Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish and Goldie Behl’s Drona for introducing desi superheroes in their movies. “Being a tech geek, producing RA.One was the best way to take the genre one step ahead. Indian animators have worked on the VFX in my film. I can proudly say that it matches international standards,” beams Khan. “I’m not pompous. I’ve worked for seven years to create the best VFX team at Red Chillies. And trust me, if I fail, I’ll only try harder the second time round.”

Will SRK & Aamir battle it out at the Box Office this Christmas?

Earlier, till a few monsoons back, film-makers felt Diwali, Eid and summer vacations were the best period to release their films. Suddenly, crucial dates that coincide with festivals, important events and holidays have become all-important for actors and film-makers. With Aamir Khan hitting gold during the Christmas week [TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, GHAJINI, 3 IDIOTS], Salman Khan back on tracks during the Eid week [WANTED, DABANGG] and Ajay Devgn eyeing the Diwali week [GOLMAAL RETURNS, ALL THE BEST, GOLMAAL 3], the Fridays that coincide with Republic Day, Valentine's Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and Lohri are also being eyed by one and all.

While producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have confirmed DON 2 for Christmas [23 December], there's talk that Aamir Khan's Reema Kagti-directed starrer might also make it in the same week, which, in simpler words, means that the two mighty Khans will battle it out at the box-office. However, the news is untrue.

First of all, how can two big-budget films, produced by the same production house [both Aamir and SRK starrers are produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar], release on the same day? "The Aamir starrer is definitely not releasing n Christmas this year. Even though we would complete the shooting at a stretch, we want to devote ample time to post-production and marketing of this film. In fact, the Aamir starrer will only arrive in 2012. Yes, DON 2 is slated for Christmas release this year and it's 200% confirmed," Ritesh informs me.

So all you guys [on Facebook and Twitter especially], hoping to see the mighty clash between the two Khans, should stop speculating henceforth.

SRK & Lara Dutt to Perform at Muscat Festival

A slew of events including a fashion show, a cycle race, extreme sailing championship and food festivals are slated for the Muscat Festival which opens in the capital of Sultanate of Oman Jan 27-Feb 24 with Bollywood names like Shah Rukh Khan and Lara Dutta participating in it, top officials said here Monday.

"While singer Sonu Niigaam and actress Lara Dutta will perform at the fest Feb 10, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will have a stage-show there Feb 17," Salim Bin Adey Al-Mamari, Director General of Tourism Promotion, Sultanate of Oman, told media persons here this afternoon.

Oman also plans to woo Indian filmmakers to consider the country as a shooting locale as Bollywood movies are very popular there and Shah Rukh also commands a huge fan following.

"Film tourism is a growing phenomenon worldwide. We realise the importance and the reach of the Indian film industry and plan to encourage Indian producers and studios to film in Oman," added Lubaina Sheerazi, India Representative of Sultanate of Oman.

Hoping to lure over two million visitors from India and elsewhere, the Muscat Festival will have Oman's Food Festival (Feb 3-17), Muscat Fashion Week (Feb 22-24), Tour of Oman cycle race (Feb 15-20), and Extreme Sailing World Championships (Feb 20-24), besides many other events.

Oman soon expects to claim a big slice of the booming meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) business by setting up a world-class conference facility.

Spread over two-million-square-metres, the ‘Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre' will boast of a 3,000 seat Convention Centre, four hotels and serviced apartments supported by a major regional retail facility, just four kilometres from Muscat Airport, informed Khalid Al Zadjali, Director of Tourism Events, Ministry of Tourism, Oman.

Targeting 12 million Indian visitors to Oman by 2020, Al Zadjali said that the country is a safe destination where the state income goes back to the people in the form of free education, free healthcare and almost no taxes to pay.

SRK to perform at Ekta’s Balaji awards

On February 1, 2008, Ekta Kapoor hosted the first Balaji Awards in Mumbai. The show was memorable for Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak de! Finale act with 10 TV girls that included Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’s original Tulsi, Smriti Irani, and her replacement, Gautami Gadgil. “The awards went off
very well but the channel we had tied up with shut shop and we were grounded,” sighs Kapoor.

Back again
This year, on February 12, at Yashraj Studio, Mumbai, Kapoor will be back with the Global Indian Film and Television Honors (GIFTH) that will felicitate achievers in six categories — Popular, Technical, Programming, Achievement (for which there will be no nominations), Special Honors and Voters’ Choice, along with 30 sub-categories. The event will be telecast on Colors on February 27.

Sixty-five per cent of the awards will be for movies and the remaining 35 per cent for TV. “Besides the Apsara Awards, none of the others integrated film and TV even though satellite is the biggest market for our movies and its stars are the big draws on TV,” reasons the soap queen-turned-moviemaker.

Bigger, better
Kapoor promises a line-up of interesting acts, with Bollywood’s Badshah bringing the curtains down again. “It was Shah Rukh who made the last awards unforgettable. We are re-launching, hoping for a bigger and better show this time, and for that we have to have SRK. He’s become synonymous with our awards,” she asserts.

The nominations are expected to be announced sometime this week. Kapoor insists that she’s clueless about whether her films Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Love Sex Aur Dhokha, or any of her TV shows, have made it to the top list. “I don’t know and I don’t want to know. I’ve been busy roping in presenters and performers. I have an independent jury to decide the awards without any kind of lobbying. I want them to be fair and unbiased, with the really talented and deserving going home happy,” she says, pointing out that at the earlier show, Balaji’s TV serials picked up only three awards.

However, despite her best intentions, award shows have invariably sparked off controversies. That draws a tongue-in-cheek retort: “Well, if it goes with the territory, why not?”

SRK's a long-distance host

Zor Ka Jhatka was shot in Argentina with contestants. Anchor Shah Rukh Khan, who is in Mumbai, will be shown as present on sets through use of special effects,

Zor Ka Jhatka host Shah Rukh Khan wasn't present in Argentina, where major portions of the reality television show were recently shot.

However, he will appear in several sequences through chroma keying (see box). The star anchor will be incorporated on the Imagine show through use of the technology.

As such, certain segments that have been shot at a studio in Mumbai to depict face-offs with the participants will have his physical presence.

Actress-anchor Soumya Tandon, who shot on location in Argentina will be seen goading contestants to complete physical tests of endurance.

Says a source close to the channel, "Zor Ka Jhatka is a reality competition featuring various obstacle courses that were shot on location in Argentina.

The participants spent considerable time in Buenos Aires, where various international versions (of Wipeout, the original show name) have also been filmed.

Shah Rukh wasn't present on location. However, the chroma key effect will incorporate SRK wherever needed."

However, the channel feels "it is okay for the host not to be present during the obstacle trails. Even in some international versions, the host does his job from a studio.

The show's format lends itself to it as the anchor has to link the show from the sidelines."

It may sound strange on paper but we'll only know when we see the show which begins February 1 on a primetime slot.

Interestingly, B-Town stars who anchor reality shows on the small screen spent time on location with participants.

The names include Akshay Kumar (first two seasons of Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi in South Africa) and Priyanka Chopra (third season in Brazil).

Bigg Boss has also had its various anchors (Arshad Warsi, Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan) trudge every week to the Bigg Boss house in Lonavla.

Then again, Zor Ka Jhatka believes in being distinct!

Chroma Effect
The actor is filmed against a chroma key background and inserted into the background shot. The principal subject is filmed against a background consisting of a single colour or a relatively narrow range of colors, usually blue or green because these colours are considered to be the furthest away from skin tone. The portions of the video which match the preselected color are replaced by the alternate background video.

The original
Total Wipeout is a British game show hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram. It first aired in January 2009. Each week, 20 contestants compete in a series of challenges in an attempt to win the cash prize. These challenges are based in large pools of water or mud and generally involve large assault courses that participants must cross. The show is a licensed version of Wipeout, the show that originated in the United States in 2008.

The Zor Ka Jhatka participants include...
Kushal Punjabi
Gaurav Chopra
Narayani Shastri
Karishma Tanna
Hanif Hilal
Payal Rohatgi
Raja Chaudhary
Vrajesh Hirjee
Dimpy Ganguly
Jennifer Winget
Vindoo Dara Singh
Bakhtyaar Irani

SRK & Katrina to be seen together in KJo’s next

Katrina, Bollywood’s biggest sensation is moving quite fast and bagging roles with the biggest superstars of the country. This time it is our very own SRK, who is to romance Kat in Karan Johar’s next movie.

The pair who has never worked together before are to be seen together very soon as plans are being made to cast Bolly’s two most famous actors opposite each other. Even though things did not hit off exactly as planned with Katrina due to Salman’s intrusion and she was asked not to share the same screen space with SRK. However things have cooled off since then after SRK has been already paired with all the leading ladies of the film industry.

This is just not it, the duo was also seen at a recent party talking to each other without any awkward moment cropping up between them. Things did not stop at this, SRK even escorted the beautiful Katrina to her car and she was seen leaving the party with KJo.

Now it seems only the might KJo himself can bring them together and make them work in a movie. People in love with both SRK and Kat, this might be the time to sit upright and wait for their movie to come up!

"Chhamak Challo" I'd be lying if I didn't say it would be the biggest song of 2011. Kareena Kapoor

Munni and Sheila are now passé. This Diwali, Chhamak Challo will sizzle on screen. So says Kareena Kapoor for her song in Shah Rukh Khan's superhero fantasy flick, RA.One. "But it's not an item number," Kareena is quick to add. "It's one of Akon's two tracks, and an integral part of the storyline. It's fantastic!"

She adds that the ambience is south Indian, and choreographer Ganesh Hegde has incorporated some classical moves! "I've never done something like this before, I'm looking forward to people's reactions. I'd be lying if I didn't say it would be the biggest song of 2011. But I'll let the audience see it, and say it for me."

According to the trade verdict, RA.One is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, but Kareena chooses to be diplomatic. "It Ra.Onewould be unfair on my part to pick any one film but I'm sure whichever one anyone else picks will have me," she laughs. She's right, considering she has My Love Story with Salman Khan, Agent Vinod with beau Saif Ali Khan, Short Term Shaadi with Imran Khan and Aamir Khan's untitled suspense thriller. "I'm biased towards Agent Vinod as it's Saif and Dinesh's (Dinesh Vijan) home-production."

Her five films have over Rs 300 crore riding on them. Kareena is unfazed: "Shah Rukh is giving his everything to RA.One. Ditto Saif and Salman whose sister Alvira is producing My Love Story. Aamir is co-producing our film with Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani, and Short Term Shaadi is being helmed by Karan Johar, who is like my brother. I'm happy that all the Khans wanted me in their film."

SRK, Big B & Judi Dench to work together

It cannot get any bigger or better than this! Two icons of Bollywood and a heavyweight Hollywood A-lister are coming together to support the cause of education among the underprivileged in India.

Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Judi Dench will be working in tandem to promote education among the low-income groups of the country with the sole aim that when these kids become bread-winners, they will have a better life and in turn provide better opportunities to their children.

And bringing these top actors together is none other than the Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty. His foundation has been silently working towards bettering the socio-economic conditions of the poverty struck groups but he believes that the time has come to go top gear. "It is unimaginable that even in the 21st century there is rampant illiteracy in India. We are making our presence felt in the world and this aspect is something that should definitely be tackled. Along with economy and cultural boom, India should not be spoken as a country that is also illiteracy stricken," Resul told TOI.

He added, "Without Amitabh Bachchan's blessing, my project would have not started at all. He has helped me with funds and goodness. It is time to implement new things. Just when I was planning different things, Judi Dench came to my rescue. She had spent eight weeks in the country while shooting her Hollywood project in Rajasthan. She saw the rich and the poor and was touched by the work that we were doing."

According to Resul, Judi will play a very active role in the project. "Judi has told me to draw plans and just tell her what is to be done and she will try her level best to do more than what has been asked of her," he said. SRK's inclusion certainly bolsters the plans further. "I have met Shah Rukh while working on his movie Ra.One. I told him all about our charity that is being supported by two big luminaries and he was more than keen to support. SRK is a silent benefactor and he too will be with us in this cause," Resul added.

"I have not ghost directed Ra.One" SRK

In conversation with Emirates24|7, box-office star says industry needs to respond to new challenges.

Shah Rukh Khan wants to clear rumours about just how far he threw his weight around on the sets of his much-vaunted home production, “Ra.One”. But quiz him on Salman Khan and he clams up. In an interview for Emirates247.com, he talks about the Oscars, ‘Ra.One’ and select other subjects.

It’s being said that you have ghost directed ‘Ra. One’?

You keep reading news that I am directing the films in which I am working in. No it is not true. I have worked in 70 films till date and I haven’t directed any one of them. No one else has directed them too. The director has only directed them. Even ‘Ra.One’ has been directed by Anubhav Sinha only. I haven’t directed it. Anubhav is a very humble man. He does not say anything. He is media shy too and he does no talk about his work. He does not talk much. He is a fantastic director. Insh’allah when this film comes out, people will understand his style of working, his talent and his passion towards his work.

‘Ra.One’ is billed as the first action thriller from India which is also a science fiction. Why such a subject?

Actually we haven’t made films like this at all. No one has made science fiction as an action thriller in India at all. It is important that our regular filmmakers should come out with some good films. I have been in films for over 20 years, but we haven’t used technology well. Else we will keep making the same kind of films again and again. ‘Krrish’ and ‘Drona’ were tow marvellous attempts at making different kind of cinema using technology.

Your character has blue eyes in the film. Did you think about your fans who love your eyes?

Some of the girls like the blue eyes. Some like hazel and some like blue. This look is for the ones who love the blue eyes.

Which directors do you like working with?

I feel very fortunate to have some great directors to work with me they have made some marvellous films and I am happy to have gotten to work with them and I am indebted to them. People like Yash Chopra to Adi [Chopra], Farhan [Akhtar], Karan [Johar], Shimit Amin and even Anubhav Sinha have done a great job and I hope I keep on getting to work with them.

After you extended an olive branch, Salman has told us that he does not want to have any kind of a friendship with you?

Can we talk about something else, please?

‘My Name is Khan’ has entered the main contest at the Oscars. How do you feel?

Well, we believed a lot in the film. Karan and Shibani Bhatija wrote the film with a lot of passion and that has paid off.

You think ‘Ra.One’ also stands a chance?

‘My Name is Khan’ was clearly designed as an international film and it has an international appeal. That is why Fox Star was interested in it. ‘Ra.One’ is more of an Indian subject. I think will be happy if we like it in India and celebrate the film.

IIFA 2011 to unite Shahrukh and Salman?

It was a legendary drop-out or opt-out whichever one you prefer to go with, the Bachchan - IIFA disassociation came as a startling surprise for Bollywood Crazies.

Following this unfortunate development, AB Baby and Mrs while at the unveiling of Stardust's latest issue featuring them retorted to journo inquiries on the matter with Abhishek jointly saying on behalf of the couple, "If I am free, I will think about it, but my primary focus is movies."

After all the B buzz, it's now appears the spotlight is shifting from the B's to the K's - the Khans that is.

There's strong buzz gathering that after a long absence from the International Indian Academy Awards (IIFA), Shah Rukh Khan may return to the IIFA awards weekend this year not just as a star attendee but a potential host.

Rumours are also rife that Salman Khan, who played a imminently visible role at last year's awards in Colombo Sri Lanka is possibly coming to town as well.

They may not see eye to eye, but Toronto's undoubtedly eying a potential Khan reunion!

Arbaaz, Shah Rukh make up!

Though the year started on a relatively good note, the lavish Filmfare nominations bash has turned out to be the icing on the cake.

Not only did the stars turn up in their finest designer outfits, all of them were at their best behaviour. Each one bonded with the other effortlessly. On the one hand was Arjun Rampal, who was spotted in the company of Shah Rukh Khan. On the other, SRK was seen hugging and greeting Salman Khan's brother Arbaaz Khan.

And Arbaaz hugged him back. Arbaaz also exchanged warm pleasantries with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

"In the world of Play Station & X-Box, you cannot miss Ra.One" - Arjun Rampal

The man is happy, he is thrilled, and he is back with a vengeance for yet another award winning role. Yes, I am talking about India's finest looking actor, Arjun Rampal.

Arjun is on a winning spree since two years. Rock On gave him the National Award and the Best Supporting Actor award and Raajneeti gave him the Best Supporting actor award and still counting.

After winning the Zee Cine Awards 2011, Rampal said, "I am really happy today. It all goes to show that audiences haven't given up on me yet. They love my work and I feel I'm at my peak and doing few films but good films, and Ra.One is one of them."

When you meet Rampal now-a-days, he isn't a changed man after winning acclaims and awards, oh no! He is rather more confident, more agile and more supportive of new ideas which he thinks will benefit the Indian Film Industry.

A few months ago when I visited the actor at his Bandra residence, he had just returned from his work out session. Seeing him all pumped up made him look like some kind of a machine had entered the house. The actor is holding his most desired look close to his heart. He just can't let out his brooding image of Ra.One out, not just yet.

Rampal quotes, "I am looking forward to Ra.One the most because I'm playing the central character called Ra.One. It's a never before seen action film. It will redefine a lot of things, including myself. I can't get more evil than this character and I don't think I ever will."

He further adds, after sipping his favourite black coffee, "What Krissh did to Bollywood, Ra.One will do the same, I feel. It's going to attract a lot of kids and teens. In the world of Play station and X-Box, this is a film they cannot miss. It's more like you are playing the game when you see the film."

It's something that I cannot reveal just yet, but would love to share a special moment with you all. Arjun Rampal gets up, walks a distance and tells me, "Do you want to see my look in Ra.One?"

Within a fraction of a second I say, "Of course yes". He turns, and brings some of his stills from the film. I couldn't believe what I just saw. To make matters funny, Arjun kept looking at my face for the different expressions I'd give. Jaw drops, eyes wide open, etc. But the final result was a man looking like a mean machine. That's all I can reveal.

Come Diwali, witness Rampal as Ra.One, the most feared man to walk the planet and expect a ferocious performance from an actor who is simply getting better with age and with each film.

SRK opens gym to friend

The actors that workout together stay together is the new mantra in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt was one of the first superstars to let all the young boys who entered films workout in his gymnasium.

Uday Chopra and Hrithik Roshan exercised together for the longest time. Now, it is Shah Rukh Khan's gym at Mannat that is the latest hangout for those who are serious about their fitness. Boman Irani travels all the way from South Mumbai to use SRK's gym.

And so do a couple of other actors. The nice thing is, even when SRK is travelling around the world, Mannat has instructions to allow the Bollywood Badshah's gym mates to use his fitness machines,

SRK-Bebo in Angoor remake

Rohit Shetty is remaking Gulzar’s original with King Khan and Tusshar Kapoor playing the inimitable twins,

We’re waiting to double up with laughter. After his success with Golmaal 3, comedy-happy Rohit Shetty is set to remake among the funniest Hindi films of all times Angoor, sources tell us.

The rib tickling 1982 original by Gulzar stayed with generations, especially for unparalleled performances by Sanjeev Kumar, who plays a detective novel aficionado and Deven Verma, who pretends to be a bhaang lover. Both characters have their twin counterparts and all hell breaks loose when they finally encounter each other.

What precedes this encounter is a series of blunders that has us in splits. Of course, Moushumi Chatterjee’s intemperate bawling tendencies just add to the pandemonium.

Rohit Shetty is now attempting to remake this film and the role that Sanjeev Kumar played in the 1982 hit, has been bagged by none other than Shah Rukh Khan, who Shetty is working with for the first time.

Shetty will work on the script along with his trusted scriptwriter Sajid-Farhad. The original was based on Shakespeare’s play A Comedy of Errors. Apparently, for the modern version, Shetty is likely to rope in Tusshar Kapoor for playing Deven Varma’s role.

Kareena Kapoor, after her three stints with Rohit Shetty in the Golmaal series, has developed a great rapport with him. So, no prizes for guessing who will play Moushumi Chatterjee’s role in the film’s remake.

“After he made Golmaal 3, everyone was wondering what Rohit Shetty’s next plans were. People were guessing if he would make a fourth sequel but the director surprised everyone by choosing to work on an Angoor remake.

That he decided to work with Shah Rukh Khan on this came as a real shocker.

It seems that Rohit is now wanting to work only with A-listers,” our source said. Despite repeated calls and messages, Rohit Shetty remained unavailable for comments.

But the director sure has a tough task at hand. Let’s hope he succeeds and doesn’t blame failure on sour grapes.

‘Both Robot and Toonpur were offered to me’

Shah Rukh Khan is peeved over gossip that he’s been re-shooting his ambitious home production, RA.One since the release of Robot and Toonpur Ka Superhero, after spotting some uncanny similarities in the plot of his film and theirs.

“Yeah, RA.One is a copy…
of Robot and Toonpur Ka Superhero… of Terminator and Superman,” he says sarcastically. “After 20 years in the industry, that’s all I can do, copy others.”

The superstar points out that all superhero films run along the same lines, with the bad guy taking on the good guy and eventually losing out to his superior powers and innate goodness. “So comparisons are inevitable. But let me tell you that both Robot and Toonpur Ka Superhero were offered to me, so I knew what these films were about. I would be crazy to follow their scripts. Both these films are brilliant, mine will be as good as I am,” he smiles.

His reasons for making this father-son fantasy adventure is not only to become a superhero in the eyes of his children. After two decades, King Khan wants to give back something to the industry that has given him so much.

“RA.One is a calling card for a studio I have set up. I’m not competing with Hollywood but I have flown down 10 Oscar-winning technicians to train my team here. I want to show the world that even using in-house, indigenous technique, we can make a VFX-loaded film that is not tacky but slickly wow,” he asserts, admitting that the reactions to the first look has been encouraging. “It’s all about colours and electricity. G.One is blue… RA.One could be red. The film’s message is encapsulated in a lovely line. The heart is the weakness of human beings, in superheroes it is their strength. I want to be a superhero with a heart.”

SRK, Aamir, Sallu in Bebo's kitty

Leaving behind a not-so-great 2010, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor is all set to explore various genres in the new year with five films in the pipeline.

While 'Ra.One' with Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest of all, there is also 'Bodyguard' with 'Dabangg' star Salman Khan.

The 30-year-old actress will be seen opposite boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in 'Agent Vinod' and Imran Khan in 'Short Term Shaadi'. She is also in talks to star with Aamir Khan in a yet untitled psychological thriller.

Considering she has one hit 'Golmaal 3' and two flops, 'We Are Family' and 'Milenge Milenge', in 2010, the new year sure holds a lot of excitement for the actress.

"There has been a conscious call to pick different genres from the films that excite me most. Earlier also I have done films like 'Omkara' and 'Chameli' which weren't exactly mainstream. Last year's 'We Are Family' was a difficult role. Now 2011 would have a mix of different subjects and films as well," Kareena told PTI.

She took the industry by storm turning size zero for 'Tashan' and Kareena says she won't stop experimenting with her looks and body.

"Everyone would unanimously agree and state that this was one actor who tried hard. I have constantly tried to reinvent myself. One has to because there is no formula for what would eventually work and what wouldn't. You can't gauge that when you first take a plunge," she said.

The actress has now put the entire debate surrounding size zero behind her and wants the audience to see a different side of her.

"To get into a physical transformation is not an easy thing to do. When I came forward with a size zero figure, I enjoyed it. Now for my films to come, there is a different Kareena that audience will see. The one who is on the slightly voluptous side," she said.

Kareena is also proud of the fact that she is the only actress in the history of Indian cinema to have two films to her name which have done a business of over 100 crores. While 'Golmaal 3' has raked in around 110 crores, '3 Idiots' had a total exceeding 300 crores.

"It is indeed amazing that two of my films have done such bumper business. Also, to have two of your films do such terrific business in quick succession would make any actor proud," said Kareena.

'Golmaal 3' released last Diwali, while '3 Idiots' hit screens in Christmas 2009.

"God has been kind to give me this success. Festive seasons are pretty much working for me. Now on Eid comes 'Bodyguard' and then in Diwali it would be 'Ra.One'. I am sure my lucky stint with festivals would continue in 2011 as well," said Kareena.

King Khan goes down the memory lane

A couple of days ago, I was in Singapore. I didn’t get to visit the orchid garden, the bird sanctuary or the Sentosa amusement park. I didn’t get to see any lions in Lion country because even Merlin, the life-size statue of the fire-spewing mermaid, the national emblem, was sheathed in plastic and related stories

But I did see the brightest and best of Bollywood add sparkle to the crystal chandeliers in the opulent ballroom of Hotel Marina Bay Sands last Friday. And make Zee Cine Awards the buzzword in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. As I was leaving, a stiff-lipped immigration official smilingly invited me back when, in response to his question of whether I had come on work or holiday, I told him I’d been there for the Zee Awards and hadn’t seen anything outside of one of the largest integrated resorts in Asia.

Leading the Bollywood brigade was the Badshah himself who had flown in on a chartered flight that had taxied into Changi airport in the wee hours. And after an hour, at best two of shut-eye in the Presidential suite, was on stage practicing his dance moves for the evening’s finale.

As the familiar tunes of Noor-e-Khuda and Sajda from My Name Is Khan rang out for the nth time, waiting backstage for a promised chat with Shah Rukh, I was transported back in time… to another award function in a five-star hotel in Mumbai.

It was SRK’s first ever stage performance and the hazel-eyed Kajol was matching steps with him. Buzzing with nervous energy, in the wings, the duo were bickering over little things and trading punches, as they waited for their turn in the spotlight. “I remember,” Shah Rukh smiled. “At another show this week, we started my act with Yeh kaali kaali aankhen and ended with Om Shanti Om. And it was flashback to Baazigar for me too.”

Baazigar bagged Shah Rukh his first Best Actor award. I’d gone to Madh island where he was shooting, to drop off his invites and got an earful in ethics because an industry veteran had told the young superstar that awards were ‘bought’ and he could only hope for a consolation prize… Best Villain for Darr.

Shah Rukh was disappointed, disillusioned and deaf to reason as I tried to convince him not to listen to gossip. And later he was suitably apologetic as he walked out of our show cradling two prized trophies for Best Actor and Best Bad Man, after publicly admitting that they had not been paid for.
“I love awards,” he’d asserted. “They make me feel so loved and wanted.” Even today, he echoes the same sentiment: “And they get me extra hugs and kisses from my children.”

There’s a room in Mannat where all the trophies he’s won down the years are proudly displayed. How many in all, I wondered. His forehead creased and then those famous dimples flashed, “I don’t know. I’ll count them when I retire.”

Well, he added two more to the shelf last week. And they got him lots of extra hugs and kisses from his lil’ darlings, I’m sure. For me, watching Shah Rukh gently coax Sussanne Roshan on stage and get her husband Hrithik to serenade her to the tunes of Sajda is today another trophy in my shelfful of memories…
