They’ve all run away: SRK

His Ra.One may be a massive VFX extravaganza but after the release of the superhero flick and the sequel to Don, Shah Rukh Khan wants to make a "small" romantic comedy.

Khan reveals that he's been meeting with newer directors to work out the logistics of the movie. "But no one wants to make a small film with me," he jokes. "I've had a chat with a lot of wonderful, new guys like Anurag Basu, Imtiaz Ali, Anurag Kashyap and Vishal Bharadwaj and I've told them that I want to make a small, interesting and stylised purely romantic film on characters my age. I want to produce it under the Red Chillies banner, but no one's come up with a script yet."

After seeing the success of recent small-budget Hindi films, Khan thinks that small is the new big, and is determined to make one too. "I'm already making a low-budget, sweet film about college and high school kids called Always Kabhi Kabhi, directed by Roshan Abbas, which should release in the next few months," he says.

The superstar admits that small films are commercially viable but insists that's not why he's made the movie. "It has the same idea as 3 Idiots, that parents expect certain things of their children, and there's a lot of pressure on the children when they start falling short of those expectations. It's a sweet film, and I hope youngsters like it."

Despite being a big budget movie star, Khan insists, "I have always believed in small, cosy films and from the beginning of my career, I've done many, be it Yes Boss or Chalte Chalte. I don't know what I'm doing after Don 2 wraps up in February, so I've approached a lot of directors, but they've all run away! They believe that if they make a film with Shah Rukh Khan, it should be a big film."

Though he's at the shoot of the youth fashion brand, Belmonte, of which he is the ambassador, Khan says that he wants to make films that appeal to every section of the audience.

"It's very important for me that absolutely everyone can watch my movies," he says. "I've always respected the tastes of the people. My mom used to tell me, 'Eat what you like to eat but wear clothes that people like to see.' Even with Belmonte, the range of clothes I endorse appeals to all consumers. So, it's fortunate that the brand mirrors what I wear in real life."

Deepika wants more work with SRK

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone first showed with Shahrukh Khan. Though she has climbed several stairs in her filmy career, she does not fill self sufficient. She wants some more of Shahrukh Khan, her first co-actor. Shahrukh played an important part in shaping Deepika’s career.

Being a first timer, it is always vital that her co-actors should think her relaxed and in this consider SRK assisted her lot to make her relaxed when she first faced the camera for a movie. Her craze for SRK can be measured from the fact that whenever she finds Shahrukh. Deepika quips, “While Shah Rukh was speaking, all I did was sit and listen. This always happens to me!

Every time I think I’m going to meet him I feel I have so much to say. Then I take one look at him and blank out!” Well, King Khan is one of the finest actors of Bollywood and we can realize Deepika’s emotion.

Dhoom 3 looks for bigger celeb

Sanjay Gadhvi is back at Yash Raj Films. Sanjay Gadhvi has been going through a few lawful matters with film producers and corporate houses and after his exit from the Yash Raj camp. His film Kidnap sank at the box office and he landed in a soup with production houses for not having been able to start the movie on time after taking advances to make the film.

Sanjay’s last big thing was Dhoom 2 and the man is now back to trying to make the third in the series. The actors are now being selected and after John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan it does seem that it will be Shah Rukh Khan in the negative lead.

SRK has been helped during his early days by Yash Chopra and the Khan has not forgotten the favours that he has got and is clearly the favourite for the job in the franchise that has earned a lot of money for the Chopras.

An official announcement is expected in around a fortnight from the Yash Raj camp or possibly would be done on Chopra’s 75th birthday that falls end September.

SRK’s the man, say producers

Shah Rukh Khan is set to become the first actor who is being considered to be in the core committee of the film industry's Producers' Association.

BT learned from reliable sources, that the producers will be suggesting that SRK be made part of a heavyweight, decision-making body that will look at keeping them unified and address issues that filmmakers across India face. The Bollywood Badshah's inclusion will be brought up when the producers meet soon to conduct their annual general meeting ( AGM).

"Shah Rukh's contribution in the last two decades is being kept in mind. He has been a successful actor and a producer. He is seen as a marketing wiz and the producers want him to give his inputs on taking the industry to the next level," says a top producer.

"He will be consulted for strategies on how to keep the producers united. The last time they put up a brave front against the multiplex owners over profit sharing and screen timings, some of them broke off the alliance and released their films thereby damaging the unity. The producers do not want a repeat of that and want someone like SRK who could guide them in moments of crisis," the highly placed informer says.
We have heard from sources that Aamir Khan was also being considered to be part of the body alongside SRK. However, since he is quite peeved with the competition commission dragging him to court on charges of forming a cartel during the filmmakers and multiplex owners' strike, Aamir is not too keen to have an authoritative post.

Shah Rukh comes in support of Marathi cinema

After Raj Thackeray and Riteish Deshmukh, it is Shah Rukh Khan who has voiced his opinion about the promotion of Marathi cinema in Mumbai multiplexes.

Shah Rukh chose his words carefully as he said, “I am not favouring any political party when I am saying this but as a filmperson, I have always wanted regional cinema to flourish. The best of stories are told in regional films and it is our duty to provide them with the platform they need. As far as financial issues are concerned, the theatre owners need to sit down and chalk out a plan that would be mutually agreeable to both parties. Lot of times people don’t watch these films because they don’t understand the language so it is important that subtitles are introduced. Marathi films or any regional films should be shown at prime time.”

On his inability at speaking the language of the state, sounding apologetic the superstar stated, “I am living in Mumbai for the past 20 years but I haven’t learnt the language completely. I do know how to speak, ‘Maaza Naav Shah Rukh Khan aahe’ (My name is Shah Rukh Khan) or ‘Pudhe gatirodhak aahe’ (speed breaker ahead) but I am learning from my children. They speak Marathi.”

My children are my harshest critics, says Shahrukh Khan

The King SRK Describing his children as his harshest critics, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan says he has become a better film actor thanks to them.

Writing in the magazine of The Mail on Sunday on "The Secrets of my success", Khan wrote, "Now I have kids, I enjoy them more than acting, but it''s certain I''ve become a better film actor thanks to them as well.

"They''re my harshest critics. They''re honest and say things like, ''That''s no good; you can do better.'' If you appeal to their honesty, I think you can be a very good actor," he added.

With 70 films to his name, hundreds of millions of fans and 13 Filmfare awards, Bollywood''s equivalent of Oscars, seven of his being for Best Actor, Khan can lay claim to the title of world''s biggest film star, the report said.
As well as being a successful actor, producer and TV presenter, he has fronted the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and owns the Kolkata Knight Riders, an IPL cricket team.
Khan, 44, wrote he never thought he would be an actor.
"I wanted to be a footballer, but I got injured, and because I had nothing to do in the evenings I started work on a play.
Suddenly my life''s timetable changed, and I began doing theatre; then television came to India, so I did a TV series that did very well. After doing a degree in economics, I went to film school, then went to Mumbai for a year. Just for a laugh and a change of scene, I moved into acting in films."
In his inimical style, Khan added, "When I was young I was even more stupid than I am now. I was very self-absorbed and I really thought I was fantastic - I went as far as writing a song called I''m The Best. It sounds pompous to think of it now, but at that point I really thought I couldn''t fail.
I''d lost my parents, I didn''t have a home, I couldn''t go any lower. So I tackled the world head-on. When you have nothing to lose it means there''s everything to win.

Noting that there''s no secret formula to success, the ace actor wrote, "Life is not about putting everything into place and planning the last detail. No doubt it''ll work fine for you, but it won''t bring magical success."

Focusing on the value of one''s education, Khan added, "I never had a house when I started off, but because I was educated I was able to do a lot. It''s nice to have a rags-to-riches story if you become successful. If your story isn''t that, then nobody likes it. But I''m proud that I now have a house that I''ve provided for my children. I know it sounds a small thing but it means a lot to me."

I’ll slap the person who talks rubbish about SRK and me, Karan Johar

Every artist in showbiz is kept under a microscope by his fans and the media as it is after all they who make an artist a celebrity by acknowledging his talent. It thus becomes imperative for the celebrity to silence their curiosity, no matter how personal or annoying it is!

Karan Johar's sexual preference and personal life is often a topic of interest. The filmmaker even gets posts addressed to him on his microblogging site asking the same! Rumours of his alleged 'close' relationship with SRK too keep floating around in social circles and media.

Though KJO or SRK do not pay heed to the unflattering things said about their friendship, or at times make fun of the news themselves KJO couldn't help but retort to the journalist who dared to ask him a question on it.

"Shah Rukh is like my elder brother. He is seven years older than me. I respect him the way I respect my parents. I am closer to his wife Gauri. I have worked with Shah Rukh the most as a filmmaker. If it wasn't for him and Aditya Chopra, I wouldn't be what I am today. So those who think of my friendship with SRK as something else are just sick! I'd slap such people if they come in front of me" said Karan to a journalist in a TV interview.

This one's for you, KJo: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan has decided he will be part of every Karan Johar production in some capacity or the other.

In I Hate Luv Storys Shah Rukh did a small voiceover. Unfortunately he couldn't be accommodated anywhere in We Are Family although SRK was quite adamant to feature somehow. "Ek photo hi daal do kisi shot mein," he kept urging Karan.

Not one to give up even when his wish has gone way past its fulfillment phase SRK barged in sportingly at a media meet with Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal and insisted on conducting an interview with the pair... "Just as a good luck charm," as SRK put it.

On Wednesday afternoon SRK just decided to drop in at the venue of the interview and said, "Even I am part of the family. So I'm joining them to promote the film." Director Siddharth Malhotra can't get over the magic of the moment. "It is such gestures that make Shah Rukh who he is. It is his ability to make people feel special that makes him the superstar and the King."

Siddharth had entered the media meet when he saw an exceptional bustle at the venue. He jokingly asked what the clamour was about."SRK aa gaya kya?" I asked sarcastically. Imagine my surprise when someone turned around and said that's precisely what has happened and that SRK was doing an interview with Kareena and Arjun for my film."

One now hears that SRK will make his presence felt in all of Karan Johar's films in one way or another.

A Minute With: Shah Rukh Khan gets up close and personal

One of India's most popular superstars, Shah Rukh Khan, is known for guarding his personal life fiercely from the media glare.

But for a change he has allowed a bit of the spotlight into his home, appearing in an ad campaign for a furnishing brand with wife Gauri, their first endorsement together.

Khan, 44, spoke to Reuters about doing an ad with his wife and pushing the boundaries as a producer in Bollywood.

Q: You have said you don't mix your professional and personal life. So were there apprehensions about doing an ad film with your wife, Gauri?

A: I am apprehensive. When you get into the public field you do open yourself to a lot of positives and negatives. For someone who is not planning to get into the field, maybe it is not the right thing to do.

Gauri doesn't want to do this full-time. She's done it as a one-off, and she's happy with it. So, yes, I am apprehensive.

If my kid decides to be an actor, I will be very clear that you are walking into something that has positives as well as negatives, so you have to open yourself to that, you have to be tough.

Q: Your next home production "Ra One" is India's first sci-fi superhero film. Do you aim to push boundaries with every film?

A: When I am producing a film, we like to take a few chances; we can afford to, because our films have a big market and a big price.

I have always been of the belief that if you get a great price for your product, it's not just for the product, but the brand that you have created, so you should utilize

it.

The way "My Name is Khan" was a step ahead in terms of storytelling, breaking the mold from what Karan and I had done, and saying something that people say in a much smaller film, and still we got a lot of acclaim.

We told ourselves, why should we be scared, just because we are taking a different subject, or what if it goes wrong. Mashallah, it did not go wrong. Similarly, with "Ra One," with the technology that was involved in it, is something that is yet untried. And not tried, because you don't get the money for it in the Indian market. I could, so I said I should.

I may lose some money on it, but that's ok. But if I am able to turn the tables around and say that India has a technological step-up with this film -- maybe 2 per cent, I am not saying I want to change the world I think I will return some of what this industry has given to me over the years.

Q: Do you think 3D, the technology that you are talking about is the way forward for Bollywood?

A: See, in film-making, whatever the knowns are, if you can control them and expand them, that's fantastic. Because storytelling is an unknown. That will never be controllable. So you can make a great film technically or you may make a very bad film technically, but the story has to be good.

I believe as a producer you should be willing to push the envelope as far as the knowns are concerned whether it is better camerawork, better lensing, better production values, or better technology. You can innovate through these things, so that something is different. You have to say, I am going to take this story and pack it this way. Like I saw this film the other day, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and it's so wonderfully crafted.

Q: As a businessman, what is the one golden rule you live by?

A: The simple thing is, your cost should not exceed what you can afford to get from the market. You should not sacrifice quality for profit.

If need be, if you can afford it, handle a bit of loss, but quality will speak. I can't say content, because like I said, that is unknown, but quality will set you apart, whether it is in life, in business or play. The quality you give to your life or your product will always make you special.

Stardom comes because of this. See the greatest of brands and you will know this about them. I try to stick by that.

Second SRK docu out next month

Just one 10-episode documentary on superstar Shah Rukh Khan's life did not satisfy his fans, it seems. Starting September 1, the second season of Living With A Superstar: Shah Rukh Khan will be telecast on Discovery TLC.

In a unique re-launch strategy, new episodes from Khan's life will be aired every night for the first month at 10 pm, followed by a repeat telecast the next day at 11 pm.

About the success of the first edition, Khan says, "People contacted me with comments like, 'We saw your life and it's really nice', 'It's nice to know your perspective about failure and success...' and 'we never knew that you also have fears and insecurities...'."

The first season of the show involved a camera crew literally living with the actor, interacting with his family and hanging around his film sets. At the time, Khan was shooting Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan. This season will see him talking about his future plans in the industry and his forthcoming film, Ra.One.

Besides a look at the film sets, audiences will also see previews of the film, positioned as one of the most expensive movies ever. The episodes will even feature conversations with the film crew and Khan's colleagues including Kareena Kapoor, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, director Anubhav Sinha and artist MF Husain.

"The goal is to celebrate everyday life by sharing stories of people in remarkable circumstances. The show has provided Khan's fans with an outlet to connect with the man himself," said Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager, India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.

Season one of the show was aired in February 2010, on Discovery Travel and Living. TLC, from September 1, will replace Travel and Living.

All is well between me and Farah Khan, says S R K

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan today said his friendship with filmmaker Farah Khan remains strong despite him not playing the lead in her upcoming Akshay-Katrina starrer Tees Maar Khan.

"If I am not doing any film with my friends does not mean we are no longer friends.. I do not think negative of my friends and wish Tees Maar Khan the best. I hope that the film turns out to be a bigger hit than Om Shanti Om," SRK told reporters in Mumbai.

To a question if he will watch his friend turned foe Salman Khan's Dabangg releasing next month, Shah Rukh said the film's promos and songs look interesting.

"I saw Lafange Parindey last week and will watch Dabangg at home after my children's exams are over," he said.

The actor denied that he has been offered huge fee to perform at the inauguration of Commonwealth games. "I am yet to be asked for it. But, I am out of the country in October shooting for Don 2," he said and added that the controversy surrounding the games was not good for the country.

"In the larger national interest, we have to stick together to make the games a success," he felt according to him, in India sports is not promoted well.

"We either cheer our players or hate them when they do not do well. We need to respect sports talent to create an honest and healthy sporting environment for our children to emulate. Sports is the nicest teacher of life," he added.

I am too old for Bollywood: Gauri Khan

Queen Gauri Khan, wife of superstar King Shah Rukh Khan said she is too old to try her luck in Bollywood.

The star-wife, who features in a TV commercial for the first time, as the brand ambassador of a furnishing brand with Shah Rukh, was speaking to the media here today.

To a question if she would want to try out acting in a film after working in a television ad, Gauri said, "I am too old to be in films. If I was younger, may be I would have considered."

Incidentally, she is the producer of SRK's movies like Om Shanti Om, Main Hoon Na, Billu and the upcoming Ra.one.

When asked if she would have featured in the ad with any other actor, Gauri said she was in the project because of her husband.

"It was a home concept and it would be awkward for me to feature in it with any other man," she said.

Shah Rukh, who was present at the press conference was the doting, protective husband as Gauri faced a barrage of questions.

On being asked how was the experience of facing the arch lights for the first time, Gauri said she had never worked so much in her life. "I am so tired that I have been sleeping for two days," she said. The television commercial with Shah Rukh was shot on Sunday.

The superstar who has just returned home after a 70 day hectic schedule of Ra.one in London jokingly asked his wife if she wished to act in a movie. "Please tell me, I will produce it myself," he said.

Later on a serious note, SRK said that in their relationship as husband and wife, both have freedom of choice.

"The decision was entirely hers. That is what trust and love is all about. Gauri did not feature in this ad for money. She has interest in furnishing and the owners of the brand are family friends so she was comfortable. I am very protective about my family and would not let them work in an uncomfortable environment," he said.

Speaking about his wife, SRK said Gauri was just like another ordinary homemaker.

"I like that she senses when I am sad and supports me. Similarly, when I am happy, she celebrates secretly," he said.

On being asked if Shah Rukh was a good father or a good husband, Gauri said, "I can't answer this question because I cannot keep praising him all the time."

Shah Rukh said Gauri makes his home beautiful. "My work is separate from my personal life. I don't carry my image and stardom home. We are a real family and my wife and kids are not overawed by my work. The way we lead our lives is the same how we used to do in Delhi," he added.

He said the only irregular feature in their normal life was the fact that he is seen on the big and small screen.

"But my children understand that this is my job. They are honest with me and discuss with me what is good or bad about my movies," he said fondly.

Ajay Arora, MD of D'Decor, the furnishing brand, said Gauri and her family make the home beautiful in the true sense.

Don 2 to be shot in Germany

In a development which has elated Berlin tourism officials, a film starring B-town actor Shah Rukh Khan is to be shot on location in the German capital this autumn, officials said Tuesday.

"This could be the breakthrough needed for making the Berlin destination known to the Indian market," Berlin tourism director Burkard Kieker said. "It's exactly what we want."

Don 2 - a sequel to Don - is being supported by the Berlin-Brandenburg film promotion company Medienboard to the tune of 550,000 euros ($705,000).

Farhan Akhtar will direct the film, with the shoot scheduled to last 50 days and taking place in many landmark Berlin sites.

Khan stirred up a bit of B-town fever in Berlin last winter when his film My Name Is Khan was featured at the Berlinale film festival.

"The Indian superstar and the film location Berlin will make for a great couple before the largest audience in the world," said Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus. Don 2 will appear in cinemas in the course of 2011.

I am an Indian at heart: SRK

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan doesn't seem to shy away when it comes to expressing his sentiments for the nation.

Describing his nationality, Shah Rukh tweeted: "I am half Hyderabadi (mom) half Pathan(Dad), some Kashmiri (grandmom). Born in Delhi, live in Mumbai. Have a punjabi wife and own Kolkata (India Premier League) team. Indian at heart (sic)."

The 44-year-old is currently shooting in Hyderabad and feels nostalgic with his visit to the city after 12 years.

"Flew into Ramoji Rao in Hyderabad... last I shot here was 'Badshah', some 12 years ago... time flies... and how nice to be here," he posted.

SRK lends 'robot' to Ash!

It’s so sweet. Shah Rukh Khan had parted ways with Shankar the director on a not-very-nice note. The title of Shankar’s film, to make things worse, was registered with SRK’s company, Red Chillies, which was then meant to produce Robot, the latest Rajnikant-Ash starrer.

However when Shankar requested Khan to release the title of the flick to avoid any legal glitches, the superstar had no second thoughts. All bad vibes were dissipated with this kind gesture.

It can be recalled that Shah Rukh Khan and Shankar got together to make Robot, a project which was extremely close to both their hearts. Both of them worked on the script for months before they began squabbling over creative differences.

SRK refused to do the film and announced to the world that he was no longer associated with Robot.

This was two years ago, just prior to the release of Om Shanti Om. Shankar went ahead and made the film with Rajnikant and Aishwarya Rai. SRK though always wanted to do a superhero film; so he is now making Ra.One.

Both the films have similarities. However when Shankar decided that he wants the title Robot for its Hindi version, he wrote a letter to SRK requesting him to part with the title. When contacted Shankar said, “It is very nice of Shah Rukh to give us the title. It was registered with him company Red Chillies.”

Shooting with Gauri makes SRK nervous

He may have faced the camera for numerous brand endorsements and films, but superstar Shah Rukh Khan is feeling jittery as he prepares to shoot with his wife Gauri for the first time for a television commercial.

"Preparing for a "big shoot" 2maro. No it's not ra.one with ten cameras. it is with Gauri for D decor brand furnishings....very nervous (sic)," SRK tweeted last night.

When contacted Ajay Arora, MD of D decor, the furnishing brand for which the star couple are the brand ambassador, said Shah Rukh and Gauri as a couple highlight the aspirations of millions of homes.

"They are a dream couple and it is the dream of millions of couples that their homes should be fashionable," he said.

Arora said Gauri agreed to be part of the team because she believed in the concept of the dream of having a beautiful and fashionable house.

"Gauri is better prepared for the shoot and Shah Rukh is much more talented. Hence together, they make a unique combination," he said.

"The commercial depicts how fabrics can make home so beautiful," he added.
Gauri who was in Delhi to attend to her ailing father returned to Mumbai last night.

Kunal replaces Arjun in SRK's Don 2

We recently reported that Arjun Rampal is not a part of Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2 anymore.

The buzz is that Arjun asked for a huge fee which didn’t go down well with the producers. As a result Arjun opted out of the film. Arjun played Pran’s character Jasjeet in the remake of Don.

The latest is that the Rang De Basanti actor Kunal Kapoor has been roped in to play the part.

Kunal confirms, “I am very excited about the role, as well as being part of a huge franchise like Don. And the fact that I get to share screen space with SRK makes it twice as exciting.”

Ritesh Sidhwani confirms that Kunal is doing an important role in the film but he denies that he has replaced Arjun Rampal.

Says Ritesh, “Kunal hasn’t replaced Arjun in the film. There is no Jasjeet in the film. Instead we have introduced three new parts in the film and Kunal plays one of them and Lara Dutta plays the second one. We still have to cast for the third character. From the original cast we have Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani and Om Puri. When did we say that Arjun was part of Don 2?” he questions.

KJo, SRK scared of Kajol

Two gorgeous ladies and a hunk. Two firebrands and one hottie. That's how we best describe this family — Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.

Recently, during an exclusive interview, zoOm quizzed Karan Johar on how Arjun managed to hold his own with two of the best ladies from Bollywood. KJo said, "Kajol can be intimidating. I am scared of her and even SRK has his feared moments with Kajol. So I can imagine Arjun getting intimidated by her. And you might think Kareena is with you, but sometimes while talking to her, she's already reached planet Pluto. And you are still on Earth. So there's one woman who is all there (Kajol) and one on another planet. Yet, it is amazing how Arjun held his own in this film. In fact, I told the ladies that if you guys think you are good, well, it's Arjun who has won a National award. So if you have a chip on your shoulder, take it off now." Well, it's not just this family who is ga-ga over the Rampal.

Even SRK and Farhan (so what if he's not doing Don 2) are mighty impressed with this rockstar, and want to work with him. We know Arjun's good with the women, but in our big Bollywood family... the
men matter too... and the Khans obviously!

SRK reveals his fashion mantra But he calls himself unfashionable,

Shah Rukh Khan is going through a difficult time dealing with his father-in-law's illness, but that doesn't mean he's lost his sense of humour. After writing about Gauri's dad's health (he's still in hospital but doing better), SRK added, "Aside thoughts: invariably am asked wot is my fashion style etc..so am writing for all those who r like me..unfashionable."

And then came the fun part, "White t shirt with lungs. Blue jeans without belt. White socks without holes. Innerwear without an ego. Sneakers with age. Smile on the face."

SRK also mentioned the doctors at the hospital where his father-in-law is being treated, saying, "Thanx to all the max hospital docs...so sweet of them to say..it is so nice to meet u..but wish we didnt have to meet u like this."

SRK's Father-in-law unwell

Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan made a quick dash to Delhi on Monday afternoon, as Gauri’s father, Ramesh Chandra Chhiba, suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday. He has been admitted to Max Hospital, Saket. A source informed, “Three of his arteries are blocked. Doctors have put the stent in one of them. In a few days, they’ll put the stent in the other two arteries. Within 10 days, he’ll be discharged.” While SRK left quickly to avoid disruption in the hospital, Gauri has stayed on.

The reason for the cardiac arrest of the 74-year-old retired colonel, informed the source, is genetic. “Otherwise, he is an extremely healthy and disciplined person. He does not drink and has no poor eating habits. He keeps very fit; until two days ago, he was playing golf. It’s in his genes. His brothers have also had the same problem.”

But Gauri was quite upset. At 74, she thinks he should have got his arteries tested well in advance. While Gauri will be here with her dad for the next few days, SRK left the city the same day at around 4pm to catch an evening flight to Mumbai. He did not stay overnight as their kids were alone at home. One of the reasons why Khan left early was also because of the chaos caused at the hospital. The source states that many people had crowded him and were apparently pushing each other to catch a glimpse of the star when he was outside the ICU. He was heard saying later, “This way, I’m only adding to his problems. It’s better if I leave than create disorder in the hospital.”

Sources at Max Hospital, Saket, confirmed the admission of Chhiba. They said that the hospital was trying to deny the location to anyone because there were immense security hassles they were facing, with staff and people alike trying to sneak in for a view of the Khan couple. The seniormost docs from the cardiology department were the only ones in the scheme of things, and the information about Chhiba’s treatment was being withheld from other docs too. They were, if sources are to be believed, consulting the family about releasing a public statement soon. But Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Max Hospital, informed TOI, “SRK’s father-in-law is in the ICU and has got a mild attack. He’s under observation and he’s being looked after at the Cardiology Department.” We also heard that SRK was desperately looking for a place to smoke and was taken by the doctors to the basement of the hospital to smoke. On Tuesday afternoon, SRK posted on a micro blogging site saying, “Father in law better. He is a tough army man.matters of the heart complicated but not unsurmountable for him.inshallah will be fit soon (sic).”

Shah Rukh's father-in-law hospitalised

Shah Rukh Khan's father-in-law, RP Chhiba was hospitalised at a Delhi hospital after a suspected heart attack. Both Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are in Delhi at present to be by his side.

A reliable source, close to the Khan family, confirmed this. "Shah Rukh Khan's father-in-law was immediately admitted to a hospital in Delhi. His condition was critical when he was taken to the hospital," said the source.

Shah Rukh and Gauri met in Delhi for the first time and went on to marry each other. Since then, Shah Rukh has been very close to his father-in-law. Obviously, this recent incident has come as quite a heavy blow to SRK's sentiments. Needless to say that Gauri too is very distressed about her father's health.

However, thankfully, Gauri's father's condition is reportedly better now. "Mr Chhiba is recovering. Both Shah Rukh and Gauri are there with him in Delhi," adds the source.

It was not long ago that Bobby Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan's close friend and CEO of Red Chillies, was hospitalised. This must be a sensitive time for the superstar. Shah Rukh Khan's secretary didn't revert to our calls and texts. We wish his father-in-law a speedy recovery.

The next schedule of RA.One rolls after a short break in the first week of September. A special set is being erected at Filmistan Studios for a round-table conference sequence.

When Bebo returns
Adds the source, "As soon as Kareena's ongoing Switzerland holiday with Saif Ali Khan ends, the couple will start shooting for Agent Vinod. Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat

The Bunglow of Shah Rukh Khan named 'Mannat', has been listed among the ten best bunglows in Mumbai city. The design of the Bunglow is a true example of the creativity and perfection.

Although it had to undergo many legal controversies at last this magnificent piece of art, which is situated in Bandra, facing the Arabian sea, has grabbed the world's attention.

This wonderful manor is a five story building with eye catching architecture and interiors. A lush green carpet of nature welcome you to the palatial house of Shah Rukh Khan. Both the exterior and interiror of the bunglow is the epitom of beauty.

The bunglow can be called as the reflection of those big and beautiful mansions you see in Bollywood movies. The golden look of the manor, portraits the king size life of King Khan. Those maroon velvet cushioned beds recall the king and queen tales.

The dining hall with those stunning chandlers and lush seating arrangement, overlooking the green spread outside is the true example of luxury and richness. Like his movies, his house too is larger than life picture.

The fourth floor is designed for his children, without walls. He has accommodated that floor with all possible things for his children like, boxing ring, table tennis table etc. This building is under the Protected Structure Act of Government of India because of its
magnificence.

The house is the fort of the Khan family, with tall walls denying a show to the outside world. Who could have said till few years back that this boy of Delhi will one day be the owner of Mumbai's most posh bunglow.

SRK gives way to Aamir in Dhoom 3

It's confirmed. Aamir will play the bad guy in the 3rd edition of the Yash Raj action flick Dhoom. Previously, the role was offered to Shah Rukh Khan but the actor turned it down for reasons best known to him. Hence, Aamir was roped in. However, this is not the first time when Aamir has clinched a role that SRK has denied. The character of Rancho in 3 Idiots was first offered to King Khan but only after his refusal was it forwarded to Aamir. And we all know the outcome!

S R K Calls Jernade Miah the 'Next Big Star' at a press conference with his co-star Kareena Kapoor.

Shahrukh Khan is one of Bollywood's biggest stars! King Khan has just finished shooting his upcoming action film Ra.One in London. Shahrukh describes the film as, "Ra.One is a superhero film. There is a good guy, there is a bad guy, there is a beautiful girl, there is a wonderful singer and a fantastic director," at a press conference with his co-star Kareena Kapoor.

To celebrate the shooting's wrap, SRK threw a party and surrounded himself with friends, cast, and crew who helped bring his production together. On the guestlist for last night's event was 2 Point 9's rising star Jernade Miah. At the private affair, Shahrukh shared a conversation with Jernade which led him to ask the singer to perform for his guests. Being the gentleman that he is, Jernade treated everyone to an impromptu performance.

"Meeting SRK was such a privilege," Jernade tells Desi Hits, "I've watched so many of his films growing up. Not many people get to give an intimate performance for such an icon."

After Jernade had hit the stage, Shahrukh was sure to go over and thank Jernade. We have been told that SRK was overheard telling the young singer "You're gonna be the next big star. I love the song you just performed." Reflecting on their conversation, Jernades tells us, "He [Shahrukh Khan] gave me some really good advice. If I can achieve half of what he has, that would be incredible."

That evening Jernade sang his song "Empty Box" which has yet to be released. The song will be featured on Jernade's upcoming mixtape Double Check which is set for release in the early autumn.

Shahrukh Khan tweeted later that evening saying, "Had a wonderful wrap party for the crew.all in high spirits &danced to my songs...I hope we can celebrate the release of the film same way."

We know that getting a compliment from Shahrukh Khan must have been quite a nice treat for Jernade. With Shahrukh introducing Akon to Bollywood, perhaps Jernade will be featured on Shahrukh's next film's soundtrack.

Check out the footage of Jernade Miah performing for Shahrukh Khan as well as a taste of his upcoming song "Empty Box." Do you agree with Shahrukh Khan, is Jernade gonna be a big star?

S R K finished "Ra.One" shooting in London.

The filming of the new science-fiction movie ´Ra.One´ of Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan in London have been completed and therefore Kareena Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan himself now indulge in a little break. Also, there was a party in London for the completion of filming as a bonus, where in addition to director and actress also Jernade Miah was present.

While many Bollywood fans and fans of producer as well as actor Shah Rukh Khan are already looking forward to the movie ´Ra.One´, even if this is totally different than the highly successful film ´My Name Is Khan´, Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan recently said that ´Ra.One´ would be "a superhero movie, that contains next to a good guy a bad guy as well", also there is of course "a beautiful girl and a gifted singer and a fantastic director".

At the party by Shahrukh Khan for the crew and actors of ´Ra.One´, 2 Point 9 star Jernade Miah could perform at the end and was very glad of course, to give a performance to someone like Shahrukh Khan. On that Jernade Miah said after the party that for him "it was a privilege meeting someone like ´SRK´", after all, Jernade Miah continued, he has watched so many of his films.
Shahrukh Khan himself was absolutely thrilled by the performance of the young singer and already called him "the next superstar", what of course had Jernade Miah quite happy. Equally thrilled was Jernade Miah (2 Point 9) then that Shahrukh Khan gave him some tips for his career.
If he would achieve only half of what Shahrukh Khan has achieved, so Jernade Miah, it would be just incredible for him.

Shahrukh Khan himself wrote via Twitter in the evening post the "Ra.One" party in London, that the party for the crew would have been wonderful and he would hope, SRK says, that the release of the film (Ra.One) could be celebrated in a similar way.

The Bollywood superhero movie ´Ra.One´ will hit the cinemas sometime in 2011 and even now we, not without reason, must be curious what ´Ra.One´ with Kareena Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan himself will look like in the end.

S R K's 175 Crore Gamble! Will It Pay Off?

I know what’s got your imagination ticking... But before you start assuming it to be something related to the IPL controversy or the FIFA, the truth is something else. It is actually the scale of Shah Rukh Khan’s most ambitious project to date and his much talked about first superhero sci-fi flick – Ra.One.

Everybody expected SRK’s next home production to be a lavish project, with on-production reports revealing rising ‘cost’ notes like how his super hero costume in the film alone was worth Rs one crore or the fact that exorbitant fees were being paid to its other two major stars, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. The inclusion of international pop singer Akon to the project was another icing on the cake.

But what has really shaken the industry is the pricing that Khan is pitching for the film – a whopping Rs 175 crore. If the deal comes through, it will be the most ambitious and costliest Indian film ever in terms of its price tag. Will Shah Rukh get what he’s demanding and if he does, what could be the impact on an industry just recovering from recession from this humongous asking?

The most expensive film to date was Kites with Reliance Big Pictures (RBP) spending almost Rs 150 crore on it. But this was for two good reasons – firstly it took off when the film industry was going through a boom period and the cost included the rights of the film’s two distinctly separate versions – Indian and international (in which the makers were aiming to launch Hrithik Roshan into mainstream Hollywood and the final cut was helmed by popular American director Brett Ratner).

In a way, the pricing was for two films. Sadly, the film crashed both in India and overseas leaving RBP with huge losses. No wonder, when one heard that Shah Rukh was looking forward to pitching Ra.One for Rs 175 crore, the news itself had industry veterans and experts fall off their chairs.

Is it realistic for an SRK starrer to be priced this high? Well, at least the actor has enough reasons to believe so. Perhaps his confidence is fuelled by the unprecedented overseas success of My Name Is Khan. The film’s box-office earnings in the global market were in the region of Rs 75-100 crore; much more than what it earned in India.

A source close to the actor says, “My Name Is Khan made him realise his potential as a commercial star outside India. So with Ra.One, he is planning for an even bigger release than MNIK. So for anyone who buys the film, SRK knows the huge leverage he will generate. There are two reasons for this kind of a pricing – firstly, it is a very expensive film in terms of production. Secondly, anyone who buys it at this price will ensure that the film has an unprecedented release. And, on both fronts, he is considering himself a safe bet.”

As regards the bidding process, two corporate giants are being considered – Eros Entertainment, which has been a SRK loyalist for a long time now (they had backed his last blockbuster home production Om Shanti Om) and Reliance Big Pictures. The actor having recently made amends (as reported in Stardust) with its head honcho Anil Ambani is keen on negotiating a deal with his film company. On its part, in spite of having produced some of the biggest films in the last few years, RBP has never had an SRK starrer in its kitty so far.

But amidst all this ‘pitching and negotiation’ brouhaha, industry experts are still trying to come to terms with this unbelievable pricing. According to a trade expert, “Today, any big film, in terms of collections, looks at 3 Idiots as a benchmark. Earlier it was Ghajini. But even a 3 Idiots or a Ghajini happens only once in 20 years. Also, these two films were nowhere in the range of Rs 175 crore in terms of their revenues. So this is going to be a real big gamble for Shah Rukh. Even if his film is bought by somebody at this price, imagine the kind of expectations it will raise and the pressure that SRK will have to bear to deliver something extraordinary.”

However, another trade expert offers a contrary view point, backing SRK’s confidence. He says, “Shah Rukh knows the kind of popularity he commands in various countries outside India. In places like Germany, Malaysia and the entire Middle East, SRK is much bigger than any Hollywood star and we are not just talking about the Indians and Asians but also among the local audiences. If marketed and released correctly, even at this huge price, Ra.One could well be a trend-setter. If a semi-commercial film like MNIK could rake in such huge collections, imagine what a full-on mainstream SRK starrer could bring to the table.”

This is precisely the reason why SRK is positioning his film for family audiences, especially children. An insider reveals, “Superhero films have the unique advantage of reaching across all language barriers. That’s the reason why films like Superman, Spiderman, Batman and even Iron Man have been hugely successful globally, outside America. And none of these films have had a commercial Hollywood superstar playing the lead in them either. So when you have an Indian superstar playing a superhero, it’s a double whammy.”

That perhaps explains why SRK had been sitting on the production of Ra.One for over a year. When he decided to get an entire foreign crew, the industry wondered over his reasons to do so. Now it’s clear that his intention was to capture the imagination of the international audience as much as the local ones, if not more. However, on one hand, where few trade experts are hoping that the film will redefine business economics in Bollywood if sold at an unbelievable price of Rs 175 crore, there is an underlying fear of other actors starting an ‘upping the price’ bandwagon, following suit.

Shah Rukh has always been a benchmark-setter of sorts. It goes back to the time when Om Shanti Om was sold for Rs 60 crore (considered a huge price then) and others followed suit with the industry then seeing films being sold for 70, 80 and even 100 crore, with Kites upping the price ante to Rs 150 crore.

With the kind of competition and rivalry that prevails in the industry, there is no doubt that if SRK manages to sell his most ambitious project for the price he wants, other superstars too would start wanting and trying to reach closer to the mark, if not cross it.

Don't clash with Salman, SRK tells KJo

If Karan Johar has decided not to let his production We Are Family clash with Salman Khan’s Dabangg it is because Shah Rukh Khan advised Karan to avert a clash.

Apparently, Shah Rukh felt doubly protective towards We Are Family since it involved two of his closest friends Karan and Kajol. In fact, when Shah Rukh came to know Kajol was expecting he went out of his way to accommodate his dates for Kareena in Ra.1 with We Are Family.

Says the We Are Family director Suddharth Malhotra, “Dabangg and Shankar’s Robot are releasing on Eid. So we have Bollywood’s Rajnikanth (Salman) and Rajnikanth on the same day. It just made no sense for us to release with them. We are coming a week earlier, araam se.”

It’s not just Karan Johar who has gone out of his way for Shah Rukh Khan by doing a bit of shooting for SRK’s Ra.1 in London. SRK too has gone out of his way for his buddy Karan’s film We Are Family.

Throughout the making of the film Kareena’s dates collided with Ra.1. Every time Shah Rukh relented and let Kareena get on with Karan’s picture show.

Says a source, “When Shah Rukh got to know that Kajol was expecting he understood that Karan and his director Siddharth Malhotra’s film needed to be shot with as much speed as possible. He repeatedly let go of Kareena’s dates for Ra.1 for the sake of We Are Family. In fact, he will now let go of Kareena’s dates for the promotion of We Are Family, since Kareena will not have Kajol to support her in the marketing.” So grateful and happy is director Siddharth Anand that he wants to show the first print to Shah Rukh.

Says Siddharth, “Both Karan Johar and I are very eager to show We Are Family to Shah Rukh, who proves that he is indeed part of the family. We also want to show it to Soorajji (Barjataya) as soon as the print is ready.”

Sooraj, who has become ultra-reclusive in recent months, has agreed to watch the film next early next month. Says Siddharth, “Soorajji will be the first to watch We Are Family. My film is just 1 hour 55 minutes long. I hope I make him proud.”

Says Siddharth excitedly, “Soorajji’s MainePyar Kiya and Karan’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are my two favourite films. When I saw the first I wanted to be part of Hindi movies. When I saw the second I wanted to direct a film. We Are Family is a homage to both Sooraji and Karan. It’s also a homage to my father (Prem Kishen) who’s a big fan of Elvis Presley. In fact, my father used to sing Elvis’ Jailhouse Rock live for me. He still does. That’s how that track has found its way in We Are Family." Karan Johar purchased the rights for Elvis Presley’s Jailhouse Rock for Siddharth’s film.

“We used just the leading refrain of Elvis’ song. The rest of the track has been composed differently by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. And we got Anuskha Manhchandani, Akriti Kakkad and Suraj Jaggan to sing for Kajol, Kareena and Arjun Rampal. The number just brought the house down when we shot it. Who danced the hardest? Me!”

'‘My Name Is Khan’' releases on DVD in U.S. on August 10

On February 12, 2010, fans of the Shahrukh Khan-Kajol onscreen pair got to see together again in the worldwide release of My Name Is Khan. The movie detailed the story of Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) and his quest to meet the president of the United States with a simple message: “My name is Khan, and I am not a terrorist.” Khan’s intense love for his wife (Kajol) provided the main motivation behind his cross-country journey to meet the president.

While the film released on DVD in India in April, My Name Is Khan will release on DVD and Blu-Ray worldwide on August 10. Fans who loved the film and can’t wait to own it finally get that opportunity, although those who anticipate extra features with DVD releases may be disappointed. The special features on this single-disc release are almost a perfunctory addition to the movie.

Aside from the inclusion of two film promos (with the songs “Tere Naina” and “Sajda” playing in the background), the extras menu features four short documentary-like episodes that each focus on a different topic. Each episode features bits of interviews with director Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, Niranjan Iyenger (the film’s dialogue writer), and a handful of other members of the film’s crew.

The first episode, called “Changing the Face of Bollywood,” touches on My Name Is Khan as a part of the gradual transformation the Hindi film industry has undergone in the last eight years. The second, entitled “Working Together,” gives Shahrukh and Kajol a platform to discuss what it meant to work together again after nine years. “The Music of My Name Is Khan” features the film’s music directors, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, and Loy Mendonsa, collectively known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and their thoughts on working with Karan Johar and composing for this movie. The final episode is “The Story of My Name Is Khan” and reveals the thought process behind the main story of the movie.

Unfortunately, each episode only runs an average of about five minutes, just long enough for viewers to get into them before they come to an end. The episodes aren’t long enough to give fans that in-depth behind-the-scenes look DVD extras typically provide. This approach to packaging the DVD is a little mystifying considering the positive response My Name Is Khan received worldwide; fans and critics eagerly anticipated the film for several reasons, but none of these reasons are addressed in a medium typically reserved for this exact purpose. There is no blooper reel, no discussion of why Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan decided to co-produce the film (a first for them), and no revealing interview of Johar and his decision to make a film that is such a drastic departure from his previous ventures.

Of course, movie lovers get their own copy of My Name Is Khan with a crystal clear picture and waiting for the official DVD release helps fight piracy. But those fans waiting for all the extra information that a special features section on a DVD provides won’t be getting those features this time around. Fans will have to settle (mostly) for the film itself and Shahrukh’s repeated assertion: “My name is Khan, and I am not a terrorist.”

"SRK" He is the most successful Indian film actor & He's Muslim!!!

He is the most successful Indian film actors: Shah Rukh Khan. With the "Press" said the Muslim religion on conflicts and why it would be a shame if he did with his appearance politicians.

Where he goes, there's Kreisch concerts, Schmachtgefühle, crowds and traffic chaos in Europe as in Bombay. Shah Rukh Khan is the icon of Indian Bollywood cinema. That produces more films per year as the dream factory of Hollywood. Even in our Bollywood has become a cult - and Shah Rukh Khan, the George Clooney-Brad-Pitt-plus of the East, a sex symbol. With his latest film "My Name is Khan", the actor and producer but gave way from the usual pattern: First, the love story between the owner of a beauty salon and an autistic person is highly unusual - a sort of Indian Forrest Gump. On the other hand, the drama is a seriously-intentioned plea for tolerance and humanity.

They are extremely popular among women - but happily married for 19 years. What do you think: Is such a happy love, work, or simply fate?

Shah Rukh Khan: There are always two people involved in it. I think it's important, how to work together. I've yelled at my wife before. I could never imagine, in the presence of my children to ever be angry. You should also allow the partner of their own place. He may not want to change, otherwise you are no longer together with the person, in which one has once fallen in love.

How do you deal with your different denominations?

We have no problem. I was raised as a Muslim, my wife Gauri is Hindu. It is crucial that you believe in God and that it is only the One.

Her film "My Name is Khan" is a plea for more humanity, for courage in love, less fear, less prejudiced and less paranoia - not only against Muslims but against everyone.

Exactly: This film is there to tell the world that speak to that you have to deal with each other and come closer instead of further and further removed from each other! There are good and there are bad people, simple as that - but it has nothing to do with religion.

At home in India, this film has already caused large controversy.

There will always be differing ideologies, which we have to accept to live with it, talk about it. As filmmakers, we will serve the public only, take it to smile and make her happy.

Are you just after 11 September, sometimes treated as a potential terrorist?

No, I'm the only times at the airport was controlled precisely. I understand: It is better that ten "wrong" people to check as the real killer to have a go through the net. Even my best friends are sometimes stopped by my security people in front of my house - I apologize for that.

What is your greatest fear?

Fear is too high. I really only care about the health and the future of my children. They grow well on? What will time them out? Ordinary father worries.

As you prepare your children for a normal life if her father is a superstar, his presence congestion and screaming crowds and provokes their home is under surveillance?

My son is twelve, my daughter ten. Yes, my children have always with a bodyguard on the road. But that is like a nanny - and in India it is normal to have a nanny. Of course you are always anxious. I told my children but that they still make far bodyguards into something special. These bodyguards working for me, not for them, we need it for my sake, not because of them. Not yet! At home I am not the star, because I am treated normally.

Annoys your superstar status before? Do you long time even for anonymity?

Never! I would never go somewhere where no crowds waiting for me! (Laughs) I'm happy the Rockstar!

Your success is greater than you had ever been possible?

Yes. I have never dreamed to be one day so successful. This success has fallen into my lap. It is neither in my talent still on my hard work. I have seen people who have more talent than me and worked even harder. Therefore, I am very thankful to God and hope that he is still quite long lasting. I am always surprised at how successful I'm internationally, and would therefore, every year another piece of humble.

When you have prayed for the last time?

Just now, an hour ago, as have I asked God that my children are happy, my family remains healthy and my films will be successful.

Meet a Muslim prejudice?

Well, I am Muslim, I am Indian and I am an actor. Furthermore, I define myself: on religion, nationality, and my profession. I think that actors have a slightly looser and more universal view of things. As an Indian Muslim, I am very much by so few problems that exist in our world, affected.

Make prejudices such as "Islam is the most aggressive of all world religions" really angry?

No, such provocations are just only a fruit of our time. The Islam that I know of is not no "extremely aggressive" religion, Hinduism. Of course, every religion has gone through at some point in their history and aggressive phases. There is also now always such incidents, but we must not allow religion to impress a false stamp like "All Muslims are aggressive." So I am not at all aggressive. I love once every woman I meet!

At you a do-gooder has been lost. Would you be interested in a career in politics?

No! I am very aware that I am only an actor. Even though I have personal views about good and evil, I'll stick with what I do best. No one should try to do to an astronaut, if he is an actor. Moreover, it would be much too good to be with my dazzling appearance politicians!

SRK & Gauri to appear in TV commercial for furniture brand

He is known as King Khan, she is known for being a successful film producer and together this real life couple is now ready to create magic on screen. We're talking about Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan. The couple is all set feature in a TV commercial.

But this isn't the first time that the couple is coming together on screen to do an ad. Back in 1994, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan did a series of commercials for the then popular soap brand Cinthol. And this time, they are all set to promote the high end home furnishing brand D décor. Gauri has donned the cover of Vogue, while SRK has featured in endless commercials but together they will be back in TV commercial after a long gap.

Gauri apparently, has always been shy of too much publicity and King Khan himself is a bit nervous of this sort of union as he tweets, "am shooting an advert with Gauri for a fantastic furnishing brand called D decor, very nervous, hope it turns out well". Well, what are the chances of it going wrong when two figures of their stature come together?

S R K to play Awadh Emperor & Katrina would be the costar!!!

Paris-based Indian filmmaker Vijay Singh is in talks with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his next project, an 18th century historical love story between an Awadh king and a British girl.

Singh, who has shot critically acclaimed feature films like Jaya Ganga and One Dollar Curry in the past feels that Shah Rukh, who has previously played emperor Ashoka, will be perfect as Nawab Naseeruddin Haidar in his third film, The Opium Symphony, based on his book Whirlpool of Shadows.

"I had met Shah Rukh regarding the movie and he had liked the idea. I am planning to approach him again for the role of the Nawab. He ruled Awadh from 1826-36 and fell in love with a British girl but their love did not suit the interest of opium traders at that time," Singh said in an interview.

"I have had a long association with Shah Rukh and wanted to cast him in Jaya Ganga but he was very busy at that time and things did not fall into place," he added.

In the city for the screening of his latest documentary India by Song, the writer is also looking for a face to star opposite SRK.

"I have good vibes with Shah Rukh and I need a descent actor so he is the perfect choice. Earlier I was planning to take a Hollywood starlet opposite him for the role of the British girl but I might talk to Katrina Kaif. I have been told she is British and is a fine actress," Singh said.

"The film will be very expensive, to be made on a budget of 60-70 crores. My screenplay is adapted from one part of the story but I might make it a bit more contemporary," he added.

India by Song, his latest film goes into the country's history through Bollywood and reflects the sheer impact of films on Indian society.

Woven around a long journey across the country, Singh chronicles Indian history from the time of independence to present with real persons representing the different era's that the nation has passed through, with Bollywood songs in the backdrop.

Encompassing diverse lifestyles and coming from all backgrounds, he has interviewed the likes of NR Narayan Murthy-Chairman of Infosys, historian-Romila Thapar, cricketer-Bishen Singh Bedi, Uday Shankar-CEO of Star TV, Mahasha Dharmapal of MDH spices group to choreographer Saroj Khan and Anjali, a domestic maid in Mumbai.

Shah Rukh Khan Keeps it Real in "Ra.One"

Shah Rukh Khan is falling back on the basics - romance and melody - even in his sci-fi super hero film "Ra.One".

After getting his lucky mascot Karan Johar to lens the romantic scenes in RA.One, Khan has now also brought his lucky singer on board.

Sukhwinder Singh - who gave Shah Rukh two of the biggest hit songs: Chal Chaiyya chaiyya (Dil Se..) and Haule haule (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) - recently recorded a song for RA.One which Shah Rukh will lip synch to in the film.

The song was composed by South music stalwart Illyaraja; it took the ace singer nine hours to record it.

Sukhwinder says he cannot predict whether the song will be as successful as his previous two for Khan, but "with my experience as a playback singer for the last 15-16 years, I know that this song, like the previous two, matches Shah Rukh's personality and might become synonymous with Ra.One,"

"It sounds fresh and different from the work I've done lately. It's quite subdued," Singh told HT.

Singh had also sung the title track for Chak De India.

SRK is an angry man but he doesn’t show his anger : Nasreen Munni Kabir

Having chronicled the lives of many personalities, how does she decide which great personality to take up for a documentary or a book is determined largely by the “impact the person has had on people over a period of time.” In addition, she says that one does require a period of time to be able to know a person and to analyse his works. “If someone turns out to be a one-film or a few-films wonder, why will I spend my time on him?”

At the same time, she also believes that people and their impact — change with time. She explains, “You are not what you were yesterday. You change a bit everyday. I don’t say the core person inside you changes, but such is life that everyday-experiences, combined with the changes happening around us, brings in us a different person everyday.”

If that is so, Big B and SRK, to begin with, must have changed too — planning another documentary on them? She agreed with the idea, but said, “If I film another one right now, it will not have the right impact,” explaining the reason, “It was a few years ago, when people had less access to film stars, that such documentaries aroused interest and left an impact. But today, you see the film stars are seen so often, they are on television — doing advertisements, anchoring, they are just everywhere. For that matter, how much would one get to see AR Rahman earlier, as much as you get to see him now? It does make a difference. Also, there should be a healthy gap and I should wait for the right time, which will not arrive before 2015.

And next, whose life would she chronicle or capture under her lens? “I think Aamir has done some really great work. And, it will be interesting to make one on him,” said Kabir, who is currently working on a biography of Allah Rakha Rahman, elaborating, “Aamir has done 20 years in the film industry and his works are well thought of, and yeah, they do make an impact.” So when is she planning to begin? “Oh! I haven’t planned it as of yet, it’s only that I have it in mind to do some day.” We could not see Aamir’s wax statue in Madame Tussauds. But hope the reclusive actor nods his head for this one, whenever Kabir ‘plans’ it out. Kabir, as of now thinks she “should write these days, so I am doing exactly that,” she remarks with a smile.

Nasreen’s documentary Bismillah Of Benaras, Maestro Of The Shehnai, was screened at the Pravasi Film Festival in New Delhi. Her book The Dialogue of Awara: Raj Kapoor’s Immortal Classic was released by Randhir and Rishi Kapoor.

She recalls those six weeks when she was filming the second documentary The Outer World Of Shah Rukh Khan (the first one being The Inner World Of Shah Rukh Khan) “I’m sure SRK is an angry man, but he doesn’t show his anger. He keeps it to himself. Otherwise, he is very respectful.” Does that mean she missed to observe his aggressive side? “I did see him angry, but only once, while we were shooting in USA, when he went, ‘Please don’t shoot me while I’m eating’. And from that day onwards, we never shot him while he was having meals — he hates to be shot while eating.

Did you feel restricted? “Well, no. If one has a request to make, you respect that. In fact, I think it’s absolutely normal to have had such an objection. After all, haven’t you seen people shying away from their plates when they are being clicked. So just because he is a star, it doesn’t rob him of such a discomfort. Even you and I will not be comfortable to have been clicked when our mouth is disproportionately open, right?”
