SRK'S Ra.One all set to become a landmark SFX film

Anubhav Sinha is going all out to ensure that the Shah Rukh Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer Ra.One becomes a landmark SFX film for Bollywood.

To make sure that only the best effects are incorporated in the film, he has given the Red Chillies team a list of Hollywood’s most outstanding SFX and 3-D movies for reference.

A source from the team reveals, “Anubhav is currently shooting in Goa with Shah Rukh and Kareena. They will be returning by the end of this week.

As soon as they are back we will start our work. The actual SFX work on the movie can only begin once we get the film footage. Till then, the director has asked us to do our homework.

We have been given a list of movies like Avatar, Star Wars, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, X-Men and Terminator to study the various special effects used in them. Each movie is different and he wants us to understand, learn and implement those effects in Ra.One.”

The source continues, “Apart from studying these movies, we are sketching, sculpting various characters that might fit into the movie. We are also fine tuning various special effects.”

Shah Rukh Khan ropes in David Benullo for his SFX film Ra 1

Shah Rukh Khan has got Hollywood writer David Benullo for his next production Ra1 which is being directed by Anubhav Sinha. Ra1 is a SFX (special effects) film.

Benullo has written the screenplay for Around the World in 80 Days and the script for Hallowed Ground, Cupid and Shadow Man, which had won the International Fantasy Film Award in 2006.

An industry insider said, “Since Ra1 is not a run-of-the-mill film, it requires a unique treatment. It’s has loads of special effects, which is why it will be made differently from the usual commercial Hindi films. SRK wanted a writer who would do justice to the film. Which is why he got David Benullo to work on the script.”

“The writer has already started work on the film when he was he was in India recently. He was working from the Red Chillies office. He had several discussions with SRK when he was recuperating after his shoulder surgery,” added the source.

Director Anubhav Sinha confirmed the news and said, “Yes, David Benullo is one of the writers working on the script. It’s too early to tell you anything more since I can’t talk about the film.” Sinha refused to divulge any further details.

The film is expected to release early next year.

It's pure love for SRK, Hrithik

It took a decade for two of Bollywood’s biggest heroes to put their egos behind them and strike up a friendship based on “pure love”.

In 2000 when Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Mohabbatein released, reigning actor Shah Rukh Khan and one of the most talked about newcomer Hrithik Roshan most certainly didn’t see eye to eye. In fact, the media had a field day playing up their differences. Sources say that even when Karan Johar brought them together for his film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, the two were just about cordial with each other.

However, things are quite different now. The last year and a half has seen a 180 degree turn in the equation between Shah Rukh and Hrithik, who are now best friends. Hrithik says, “We have our wives to thank for this. Gauri and Sussanne are very very close. And yes, in a way they have brought Shah Rukh and me closer.”

Pondering over their now thick as blood relationship, Hrithik says, “Shah Rukh has always been extremely warm even when we were not so close. I have come to respect him for that.”

“We have become very close and have partied together so often. We have celebrated each other’s successes and also each other’s failures. Shah Rukh and I are just happy friends and we look for every little excuse to spend time with each other,” adds Hrithik.

Hrithik says that while the world sees just the two of them being friends, SRK and he are part of a much larger group. Karan Johar, Uday Chopra, Sanjay Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Chunky Pandey, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar also hang out with them.

“All of us usually go out together,” says Hrithik. ``It is nice to have people who care for you and are there for you especially in an industry where it is very easy to get entangled in ego clashes.”

He sums up his equation with SRK saying, “Shah Rukh and I have a relationship where there is no competition or jealousy. There is nothing but pure love.”

Discovery-ing SRK

For die-hard fans of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, a.k.a. SRK, this could be the ultimate—a peep into the private life of their hero. Discovery Travel & Living has framed Khan—the master entertainer, a successful entrepreneur, a caring father and a loving husband—in all his avatars. In the process, fans get to see what they could have only dreamed of—the uncut version of Khan.

Living with a Superstar is a 10-episode series of celebrity voyeurism. The round-the-clock access given to a team to follow Khan across the globe yielded the highest vierwership ratings among all English entertainment and news channels at prime time on budget day—February 26—as per data compiled by audience measurement agency TAM Media Research.

Says Discovery Networks India senior vice-president and general manager Rahul Johri, explaining why they chose Khan among all celebrities, “Shah Rukh Khan is one of the biggest entertainers of the Indian film industry with growing popularity in the international markets. He was the unanimous choice.”

If Khan was the unanimous choice for the channel to broaden its viewership base, the Bollywood star also had no qualms being part of the programme. After all, it would give him the much-needed marketing platform to reach out to those who till now had kept away. The crafty strategist that Khan is, he manages to keep the structure of a reality show minus the crudeness of the format, which we encounter in many shows. The first episode takes us on a vacation to London with Khan and his family. Amidst the fun and games with his two children, Khan delivers the first of his homilies: One must not cheat to win. The show has several such scenes where the audience gets a glimpse of the man behind the superstar, away from the arclights.

In the second episode, we get a sneak peek into Khan’s make-up van. Though he takes pride in his van, he remembers to remind the audience: It’s not the van that makes the man. It’s the man who makes the van. By now, such one-liners from Khan have achieved the tag of ‘Shahrukhism’. The third episode ‘Hit Wicket’ at times sounds like an ad for Kolkata Knight Riders, the Indian Premier League team Khan owns.

“Our intention was to build a fresh property for Discovery. The network till now hadn’t explored Bollywood, so we felt it’s our responsibility to do something on that line to.

increase the viewership. What could be more entertaining than exploring an entertainer,” says Raja K Gopalakrishnan, CEO and producer of Blue Mango Films, the co-producer of the show. The other producer is Red Chillies Idiot Box.

“We jointly commissioned Red Chillies because of their close access to SRK. The fact that Samar Khan, head of Red Chillies Idiot Box, is a friend of Shah Rukh simplified our challenges of keeping up with Shah Rukh’s frenetic pace and lifestyle,” says Johri.

So everything in and around the show just falls in place: Khan gets what he wants, the viewers see what they want to see and the channel achieves its goal, too. However, LWAS has its funny moments too—be it the London phone booth charging Khan though he is unable to make a call, or the King Khan threatening to don the Deccan Chargers cap if his players fail to win again!

If you need more of Khan, Friday 9 pm is the time for you. Discovery Travel & Living will continue to travel and live with Khan for some more time.

P.S.: You will get to see what the makers want you to see, otherwise one year of a larger than life personality cannot be contained in a 10-episode series....

Rejuvenated Kolkata and Delhi clash in a crucial IPL tie

With their campaign back on track, both Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils would look to carry their winning momentum forward when they clash in an Indian Premier League match at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in Delhi.

Both the teams have witnessed similar fortunes in the last two weeks, where they won the first two matches and then succumbed to three consecutive loses before bouncing back with a comprehensive win in their last outing.

However, with little to differentiate between the two teams and fortunes fluctuating so quickly in this format, it would be difficult to predict the favourites.

Despite not having skipper Gautam Gambhir up its rank, Delhi still boosts of a devastating batting order with Virender Sehwag, David Warner up front and AB de villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan in the middle-order.

Sehwag played terrific knocks of 75 and 74 against Rajasthan and Chennai respectively in the initial stages of the tournament but missed out in the last two ties and skipper-in-charge Dinesh Karthik would be hoping that swashbuckling opener fires on Monday.

However, Karthik, himself has not been in good form and apart from 46 against Deccan Chargers, he has nothing to show.

In the bowling front, Parvez Maharoof and Dirk Nannes have done the job for the Delhi so far but their highest wicket taker is spinner Amit Mishra.

Pradeep Sangwan and Sarabjit Ladda have also contributed when given a chance.

In comparison, Kolkata lacked power-hitters who can give the team that X-factor to put an additional 10-15 runs on board and although, on Saturday, Manoj Tiwary provided some late fireworks, skipper Sourav Ganguly would be hoping to find someone to do the job for them in the last overs.

Shane Bond has done a reasonable job for Kolkata but Ishant Sharma, who has six wickets in his kitty, and Ashok Dinda have been expensive.

Ajit Agarkar shone in his first outing on Saturday, claiming two crucial wickets.

The spin department is being spearheaded by Murali Karthik, who has troubled the opposition on more than one occasions.

Apart from left-arm spinner, Gayle has also done a decent job with the ball.

All in all, the match is evenly-poised for both the teams as whoever wins the encounter will be back in contention for a semifinal spot.

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by 39 runs

Ajit Agarkar and Shane Bond took two wickets each after Manoj Tiwary and Sourav Ganguly hit 75 and 50 respectively as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by 39 runs in their IPL clash at PCA Stadium in Mohali on Saturday.

Chasing a victory target of 184 runs, Kings XI managed to score 144/6 in their 20 overs.

Irfan Pathan's was the last wicket to fall when he was dismissed caught and bowled by Bond.

Kings XI effectively lost the match when Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara were dismissed in consecutive overs to leave the hosts tottering at 98/5.

Jayawardene (16) edged a full length delivery by Angelo Mathews onto his stumps while trying to play it to fine leg and in the next over Sangakkara went for a switch-hit against Chris Gayle and not only missed the delivery but also stumbled out of his crease to be stumped by Wriddhiman Saha.

Ajit Agarkar took his second wicket in his second over when he had Manvinder Bisla caught by David Hussey at mid-off to reduce Kings XI to 54/3.

Manoj Tiwary took a superb catch at deep mid-wicket as Agarkar dismissed Yuvraj Singh (24) for his first wicket in his first over.

Shane Bond trapped Ravi Bopara plumb in front of the wicket on the second ball as Kings XI Punjab got off to a poor start chasing 184 to win.

Kings XI lost their first wicket without a run on the board but Bopara was unlucky to given out as the ball was going over the stumps.

Earlier, Manoj Tiwary's unbeaten 75 and Sourav Ganguly's 50 enabled Knight Riders to set a 184-run target for Kings XI.

Tiwary hit 2 sixes and 8 fours in his 47-ball knock and hit Irfan Pathan for 2 sixes and 2 fours in the last over of the Knight Riders' innings.

Brett Lee took a good catch in the covers to send Angelo Mathews back to the dugout to give Pathan his second wicket.

Sourav Ganguly and David Hussey fell in successive overs shortly before Tiwary reached his fifty.

Pathan had Ganguly (50) caught by Piyush Chawla at mid-off as Knight Riders lost their third wicket.

In the next over, Chawla clean bowled Hussey (3) to reduce Knight Riders to 130/4.

Ganguly hit a 37-ball 50 soon after Kolkata Knight Riders crossed the 100-run mark.

This is Ganguly's first IPL 50 after 16 inings and came when his team needed it the most.

Ganguly's 50 came after Shalabh Srivastava had Mandeep Singh caught by Brett Lee at mid-on as Kolkata Knight Riders lost their second wicket.

This was Srivastava's second wicket in as many overs.

Manvinder Bisla took a superb catch at deep square leg as Kolkata Knight Riders lost Chris Gayle in the third over.

Gayle mistimed a pull off a Srivastava delivery and Bisla running from deep mid-wicket, dived and plucked the ball out of thin air to take the catch just in front of the ropes.

Gayle's dismissal brought some relief to the Kings XI camp as the swashbuckling batsman had already hit 3 fours in his 12-ball 14 after Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat.

Kolkata dropped Murali Kartik, Ishant Sharma, Chetweshwar Pujara, Harpreet Singh and brought in Ajit Agarkar, Manoj Tiwary, Iqbal Abdulla and David Hussey.

Punjab dropped S Sreesanth, Mohammad Kaif and Juan Theron and brought in Vikramjeet Malik, Karan Goel and Brett Lee.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Sourav Ganguly (Capt.), Chris Gayle, Manoj Tiwary, Mandeep Singh, David Hussey, Angelo Mathews, Wriddhiman Saha, Shane Bond, Ajit Agarkar, Ashok Dinda, Iqbal Abdulla.

Kings XI Punjab: Kumar Sangakkara (Capt.), Ravi Bopara, Manvinder Bisla, Yuvraj Singh, Mahela Jayawardene, Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla, Shalabh Srivastava, Brett Lee, Karan Goel, Vikramjeet Malik.

KKR have edge over struggling Kings XI,, *KORBOO..LORBOO..JEETBOO..RE*

Kolkata Knight Riders would look to snap their three-match losing streak by exploiting the chinks in the armour of a struggling Kings XI Punjab when the two sides clash in an Indian Premier League match on Saturday.

Sourav Ganguly-led KKR began their campaign with two upset victories against defending champions Deccan Chargers and last edition runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore before losing their next three ties.

Though the bowlers have done a reasonable job so far, it is the batting which the KKR needs to prop up to fancy chances against Kings XI, who have managed just one win from their five outings, and that too via a one-over eliminator against Chennai Super Kings.

KKR would be hoping that their star batsman Chris Gayle, who hit a stroke-filled 60-ball 75 in his first IPL 3 appearance against Mumbai Indians on March 22, would once again come good on Saturday.

Gayle's fast off-breaks, with which he often restricts the batsmen, are also a bonus for his side.

KKR would be hoping that captain Ganguly, too, contributes in a big way to post a big total at the PCA Stadium on Saturday.

In the bowling department, left-arm spinner Murali Kartik has been the most consistent while New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has also done a decent job so far. Pacer Ishant Sharma though has been expensive.

For Kings XI, nothing seemed to be going right and they are now languishing at the bottom of the points table.

Batting has let the team down most of the time while bowlers too have struggled to contain the opposition.

Barring one 40-plus knock, batting mainstay Yuvraj Singh has flopped while captain Kumar Sangakkara has failed to make any mark so far.

Shahrukh and I share amazing chemistry – Kareena

Kareena Kapoor is paired with Shahrukh Khan in his latest home production. She was also his co-star in his second production Asoka. On the second day of shooting, she gets nostalgic...
They are paired together in his home production Ra.1 directed by Anubhav Sinha. The last film they had acted opposite each other was another SRK's home production - Asoka (2001).

She squeals excitedly from Goa, "After Asoka, we worked together in K3G but we weren't paired romantically. I did a song with him in Don and Billu. Ra.1 is his most ambitious project yet.”

She continues, "We share an amazing chemistry. When Shah Rukh and I shot yesterday the spark was there - it was as if no time had passed since Asoka. And it's been almost a decade."

Not surprised
Kareena says that she wasn't surprised when SRK offered her the role in Ra.1. "He spoke to me about the part when we were shooting for Marjaani song in Billu. He told me he was working on a super hero flick and was very excited about it. Then one day he called me and asked me if I would be a part of his film. When Anubhav narrated the script, I realised it had all the making of a blockbuster. I am really excited about my role. Though it's a fantasy film I have no stunts to do in the film. My character is that of a married woman and have a different look in the film."

Gush factor
She adds that she hasn't noticed any changes in Shahrukh's working style even after a decade, "He is hard working and very encouraging. I have never seen him sitting and doing nothing. Either he's discussing something with the director or cameraman or scriptwriter. He's so energetic and involved, that for me it's a huge effort to match up to his energy levels."

While Shahrukh remains one of her personal favourites amongst the Khans (SRK, Salman, Aamir, Saif) Kareena refuses to name one as her all-time favourite actor. "They all have truly unique and diverse personas (SRK's is magnetic, Aamir is a genius, Saif has an international Hollywood appeal and Salman is spontaneous) so it's unfair to choose any one as my favourite. The Khans are ruling the industry today and I am lucky to have worked with all of them."

His chivalry
Bebo is clearly impressed with her hero, and admires him most for his chivalry, "I remember his chivalry when I first met him when I was nine years old (at one of Karisma's shows in Muscat) and he is still the same. He is so protective and caring towards women that is hard not to be charmed. From a wide-eyed nine-year-old to playing his wife - it's been great to know Shahrukh. It's fun to be on a set with him. I feel at home on his sets as I can say and do anything that I want. He tells me that I look the best in his movies and I agree with that. He takes extra special care in everything and I feel so touched."

Today Kareena will take a chartered flight from Goa to Delhi to launch a new cell phone. The phone will also launch her interactive fan groups on Twitter and Facebook where Kareena will be seen chatting with her fans on the websites once a week.

I feel very embarrassed and odd. I don't even call them fans. I think they are people who appreciate what I do. SRK

He's known as King Khan of Bollywood and is one of India's hottest actors and producers. Shahrukh Khan, the global superstar explains why the time has come for developing nations like India to assert themselves internationally, discusses the furore surrounding the premiere of his film My Name is Khan and talks about his hopes for his Kolkata Knight Riders team in this season's Indian Premier League.

Q-It's fantastic to have you on the show, you are easily Bollywood's biggest star these days. For those watching it might have seemed easy. You are so big they call you King Khan. Is this the way you saw you life panning when you started off as an actor?
A-Not at all, I still don't believe it. I still think it's like a dream. But when I started off, I never thought I would do anything else but wake up in the morning and work. But the only thing that's added to it, and I tell this to everyone, is that I still wake up in the morning and work but the only odd thing my kids find is that I'm a man and I wear make-up.

Q-We're doing this interview at your house and there are often throngs of fans waiting outside trying to get a glimpse of you. As they wait to see what crumb you might throw them, is that kind of a weird feeling - the immense scrutiny that you get.
A-I feel very embarrassed and odd. I don't even call them fans. I think they are people who appreciate what I do. My wife tells me on the weekends, especially because there's a crowd - a thousand people outside. So I go for five minutes and wave, then the cops get very angry because the traffic stops so they shout at me. So I'm really embarrassed. I feel really odd but I think when people come to visit me at house then I should be sort of kind to them and say hello to them. The scrutiny part, there was a time, I have a sense of humour and my family feels I should stop it because it's gets me into trouble. I say things and maybe people don't understand it or they give me more importance than to think, I am flippant. I should not be flippant. I should be more serious. But I feel I've never been like that and I just want to have fun and say things that are easy going but many a time, it's not taken like this and everything is scrutinized.

Q-One of things that got you a lot of headlines recently was that as Muslims it was shame that the IPL hadn't picked up any Pakistani players for this season and you own an IPL team, The Kolkata Knight Riders. Your comments caused an absolute firestorm particularly with Hindu Nationalists, did you anticipate the furore those words would cause.
A-You know I did say in the interview, you know I do hope I don't get into trouble for saying this before I said that. But I didn't think it would go to this extent. It became strange. Strange things were said. And I said "the bottom line in my country is that, there is a certain amount of freedom of speech which we also restrain unto. We are not completely outspoken, we don't do strange things - at least I don't and most of the people I know, don't. So there's freedom of speech. This was my point of view.

Q-They were burning effigies of you in the streets, some people I mean, people are absolutely going nuts about you.
A-Some guy had a slipper in his hands and was hitting poster. I want to find him. I want to meet up with him. He should try it when I'm standing in front. Not on a piece of paper.

Q-The main Hindu Nationalist party, Shiv Sena, obviously took what you had to say extremely badly, they were the ones who campaigned against at this time and threatened to disrupt the premiere of your movie My Name Is Khan. Were you worried at all about the safety of yourself and you family and your fans?
A-I'll be honest. I know Balasaheb Thackeray very well. He's also been very gracious to me. I know Uddhav Thackeray, he's been very helpful. I know them very well. We've never had ... and I've said this many times...
The top level of the Shiv Sena...
They meet me, I go over to their house, they're really gracious and wonderful with me, and we've never had ideological discussions, maybe they have a different ideology for the party that they run, but I'm not a political person so we've never sat down and "so, why is it like..", so we've never had this discussion. If there was genuinely a misunderstanding about what I said, which is quite possible, pick up the phone and I'd explain it, it would have been "oh, okay, that's what you meant? Sorry. We thought you meant this. You don't mean that." That's the way it should have been but I just think it became bigger than the personal relationship we share.

Q-Your team the Kolkata Knight Riders hasn't had a terrible successful track record in the past couple of years, what do you think are the prospects for it to do better this time around?
A-The thing that I say, you've been very kind when you say they haven't been doing very well. The first thing - and I'm a little philosophical about this - is that I have to accept and the team has to accept, the truth is we haven't done well at all. We've accepted that. The second part is, it's very easy to do better when you're in the eighth position with only eight teams you can't go worse than this. So we are going to do better. I think what we tried to do is get the Indian part of the team stronger. I think the senior guys like Ishant and Ganguly, they just need to get into the groove. I think the main thing the coach and Dada have brought in this time is the fact we training the young guys just to make them enjoy themselves. 20/20 needs to be enjoyed, when you see a Matthew Hayden play, he's enjoying himself. I sense that. You have to enjoy it. You can't just have the test match pressure on your head. Or the one-day pressure on your head. You need to go and enjoy yourself. Have a good time. So yesterday when the team was leaving, somebody turned around, one of the managers and said we have to win only seven or eight and if we only lose five. And I said we can't lose anymore. We've lost too many. We've lost for the next four years. So I think we'll do better. I think we will do much better this year.

Q-Let's discuss movies now, and specifically My Name Is Khan in which you play an autistic Muslim in America post 9/11. The film's done great and particularly well in Islamic countries, is that your intention. Were you trying to appeal to most of the Muslim audience?
A-The fact that, you said it so well and it was a convoluted plot, an autistic Muslim man in America post 9/11, when you put it so simply it sounds so complicated. No, you make a film, normally for a universal audience, the kind of films that I do especially I would like everyone to see them. Within them, I'll try to put in something different that appeals maybe, if you do hockey, maybe the hockey guys and girls will like it more. You do it about a bad guy recently, so when you do that thing and the youngsters like all the bad stuff, cool stuff. So, they like it. But the intention was never like that. I do remember the wonderful distributor Fox, they were going to say we'll release in UAE, and we'll release it in Morocco like this, and Indonesia and Malaysia and I said "why are they doing it so specifically". Maybe they understood the spot much better than we did because yes, it's record breaking in the Muslim countries, I never thought it would have been like that. I really thought the film was about humanity.

Q-Yeah, this was the latest collaboration between you and director Karan Johar, you've worked together on countless movies but you're also best mates away from the set. What is it do you think that some sort of magic formula you have seems that helps you two work together so well?
A-I think the first thing is that's trust. I gave him a book the "Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night" and I said you should make a film with a little kid who's autistic and a story of a father and a son. Obviously assuming if you took me as a father and a little child who's autistic. And then he came up with the script with me as autistic with this whole plot. And I'm like "this is a little strange" because when you make a film with me, as far as Karan and me are concerned, we normally make a little more commercially viable films. But he said no, this is what I want to do. So I trust him, I trust him completely.

Q-One of the things that got a lot of publicity for the movie was when you were detained by US immigration which in a way which mirrors a scene in My Name Is Khan when you say "my name is Khan and I'm not a terrorist" to have it play out like that in real life, there was a lot of press on it, what was it like from your standpoint?
A-It happens to me every month, whenever I travel to the western world because of the name. But it's not only me. There are another 75 people in that line. It happens to my kids. And I say this again and again. I have no issue. I have no issue with it personally because this is the world that we have created. This is how it is. I think what happened that day was that it took a little longer. This was at the immigration for the first time - normally it happens at the security. I think the processes just went wrong and it took a couple of hours. I had to call the Indian Consulate because I had a meeting in Atlantic City, if I got caught up here, there was no point me going all the way to America. So I asked "can you get me out of here", so I think it just went out to the press and we have reached a stage in India and I think rightly so, when a developing nation is on the threshold on coming out and Inshallah taking over the whole world - in terms of economics, in terms of politics, in terms of business, I think certainly we have a voice. We've been pushed, all developing nations, I'm not just saying India and suddenly we have a voice in the world which matters and sometimes that voice is a little louder than it should be. So anytime anything goes wrong with Indians anywhere in the world, you notice all Indians get up. Not on the outside. It happened when the Shiv Sena thing happened - all the Indians came and said "no, this is wrong". I'm really glad we have a voice like that, and that's what happened "they stopped Shah Rukh, how dare they" and I was joking about it until about half a day actually, and I even joked that when the American Hollywood actresses come that I should be given the right to frisk them in India. I want to be the first guy. It's only fair.

Q-You did say you wanted My Name is Khan to be a global hit like Slumdog Millionaire. You could have been in Slumdog Millionaire. You got offered the role of the quiz show host but you turned it down and Anil Kapoor got it. Do you beat yourself over that decision?
A-No, I really wanted that film to be made. I'd read the Indian novel. I'd bought it. I wanted to make it myself but an Indian film. When I read the script, I knew they'd made a much better film than I could ever.

Q-Why didn't you want part of that fantastic film then?
A-One, I'm not offered many great films; honestly, I don't have an agent for stuff in the west. Also, I'd hosted "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". Here the host was a bit of a fixer. I only fixed "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" in a way that I felt bad for the people and I'll like "listen why don't you retire now, don't don't, this looks like a difficult question. So you've got half a million dollars, go back relax" then they say "no we want to play" and I'm like "can we go for a break". I used to feel really bad and I'm not allowed to say anything but I know this question's a little difficult young man. So, I just felt that I had so much fun doing it personally that I didn't want to be on the side where I take the guy into the loo and say "I can fix this for you". I didn't want to be the bad guy because I won't do it like that.

Shah Rukh Khan can't live without the limelight

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan loves his celebrity status and admits he would never want to live without it even for a few moments.

"I don't want to be anonymous... I'm very honest about that. I love being recognised, I love people liking me, I love the fact that people scream when I go out, I think I'll miss all that when it's taken away, and I don't even think about it," said Shah Rukh in an interview to CNN's Talk Asia.

"I think that's why I work harder every year, every day, every month and every moment. I'm not standing and counting the people outside my house, but I don't want them to lessen," he added.

When Shah Rukh came to Mumbai in 1991 to make it big in Bollywood, he had no film background. But with his sheer hardwork and determination, the actor hit the bull's eye.

His popularity soarred high with blockbusters like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Baazigar", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Darr", "Pardes", "Dil Toh Pagal Hai" and "Chak De! India".

Even though the 44-year-old never wants people's focus to shift from him, he says inherently he is a shy person.

"I'm basically shy and I have to really prepare myself to go and let myself go on a set. There are certain things I started, I tried them and then I started feeling very awkward doing them ... like laughing on screen.

"I find it extremely odd to laugh on screen. I find it extremely odd to use bad language so I don't do a film like that... kissing and love making (on screen) is the other thing, because I just find it odd," said the actor who is currently working on his film "Ra.One".

The interview will be aired Saturday at 4.30 p.m.

Katrina getting too close to Shahrukh?

It is common knowledge that Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan don't get along well but that doesn't stop Salman's girlfriend Katrina Kaif from bonding with Shahrukh. The news is doing the rounds that she is getting too close to King Khan.

Katrina, who inaugurated the recent FICCI – Frames 2010 with Shahrukh, is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Rumourmongers are talking about her growing closeness to the Baadshah but she said that he is just an acquaintance. She added that there is nothing to be made out of her meeting with him, as it is very normal to greet cordially when 'you meet somebody you know.'

It was speculated that she was getting closer to Shahrukh than she should. But it looks like she has been dragged into the dirty waters unnecessarily, as she is going steady with Salman for a few years now.

I call SRK Lucky Ali: Juhi Chawla

With the IPL Season 3 on, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Juhi Chawla is keeping her fingers crossed. The actor tells India Blooms correspondent Sreya Basu that the team needs the luck-factor this season.

Last season, KKR ended being the last in the IPL list. So, you must be a bit tensed this time?
We just need the luck-factor this time. We are proud of Dada (Sourav Ganguly). He has the captain's luck and he is a fighting cricketer and hope he brings that dash to the team.

Do you think changing the colour of the KKR jersey from black to purple will ad to the luck-factor?
(Smiles) Going with the luck factor we have changed the black colour of our jerseys to purple and hope that gives us a Purple Patch; though, personally, I loved the black one more. The team management is working very hard both on and off the field this time and we are confident of doing well. We just need the luck as we said.

Are you superstitious?
Not really. But every time there is a KKR match in Kolkata, I try to go and offer my prayers at a city temple.

Your friendship with Shah Rukh Khan goes a long way-be it films or IPL?
Yes. We are buddies. That's why, whether it's starting a film production house (Dreamz Unlimited) or owning an IPL team, I try to have him with me. I call him ‘Lucky Ali'…he brings good luck to the people associated with him.

Okay, let's go down memory lane now. You became an overnight sensation with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT). Did you ever dream of making it so big in Bollywood?
You know, I was about 10-11 years old when my family got an invitation to watch the Filmfare Awards in Mumbai. It was the only film event I saw in my childhood days. I was awestruck!

It was a big night…the entire film industry was present…there was Lakshmikant-Pyarelalji's live orchestra…awards…I watched wide-eyed. And years later, I found myself working in the same industry and getting Filmfare awards. It's a feeling that you can't express in words.

So, how much has Juhi Chawla changed since the QSQT days?
Honestly speaking, I have tried not to change myself. Yes, I used to be a very shy person. But acting in front of camera has made me get over my shyness. I have become more confident.

When I started as an actress, I used to get nervous and scared if given a complicated dance step or a long dialogue. Obviously, now you can't expect that from me! Otherwise, I think I haven't changed…I tried not to let success rob my true self off me.

People love to see you more in comedy films than serious ones. What do you enjoy most?
It's fun doing comedy films. You don't even realize when you are through with a particular scene. By nature, I am a fun-loving person, so I enjoy doing comedies very much. But an actor should do all kinds of roles, and hence I have tried and still try my hand at emotional and serious films.

You almost ruled the 90s as Bollywood's No. 1 actress…
Believe me, I never wanted these numbers. All that was in my mind at that time…and even today…is that I have to do good work.

You have a flair for singing too. Ever thought of cutting an album?
(Smiles) What do you think? Who will give me a chance to sing for a film, or an album?

You are famous for your smile. Don't you ever get angry?
People keep telling me that I smile all the time. Be it in professional or personal life, I always try to maintain a good feeling around me. I do get angry, tensed, upset…I do cry…but that's mostly when I am alone.

So, how will you describe yourself?
I am an ordinary person who had some extraordinary opportunities.

‘ No other student has achieved the success SRK has’ Barry John, the man behind SRK

No conversation with Barry is complete without a question or two about SRK. He is often credited with SRK’s success as an actor. How does that feel? “The credit goes to SRK that he learned all that he needed to launch himself to the highest galaxy of global stars,” says Barry.

He was Delhi’s resident authority on all things theatre and also on info related to Shah Rukh Khan’s early struggle as an aspiring actor and drama student. But ever since Barry John shifted base to Mumbai in 2007, the tempo of theatre activities in the city has somewhat slackened. But, Delhi’s loss seems to be Mumbai’s gain as Bollywood has found an actor in Barry.

‘I’m working in my sixth film’
This year alone, Barry has been part of three movies – Teen Patti, Thanks Maa and the forthcoming Tere Bin Laden. Talk to him about his flourishing career in B-town and Barry says, “It’s too soon to talk of my visibility in Bollywood. At my age, it may be ridiculous as well. I am content to do what small roles I can, to further my education. But, you have to be in Mumbai to be available for the opportunities that do arise. I have been in Mumbai for about three years now, and I am working on my sixth film, and this through a period of economic recession when these other films were indefinitely shelved.”

‘I was keen on one-on-one interaction with AB’
In Teen Patti, Barry is the pompous dean of the institute Amitabh Bachchan teaches in, and in Thanks Maa, he plays the role of a priest. In Tere Bin Laden, he is an American CIA agent. “The role of the dean in Teen Patti was the consequence of having led the training workshop for the newcomers in the cast. I was keen for one-on-one interaction with Bachchan. I did not associate with the character in real life – he is far too pompous and moralistic for my liking.”

‘B’wood is about making money’
Ask him about the difference between his earlier habitat and the current one, both geographically and professionally, and Barry says, “Theatre and Bollywood are as different as chalk and cheese! Theatre is a small, intimate world, which is actor-friendly, humane and democratic. But Bollywood is big, brash, loud and hierarchical, because it’s an industry and it’s all about making big money.”

Shahrukh Khan: Once a King, Always a King!

There is only one King in bollywood, that is Shahrukh, and he has proved it time and again with his amazing acting prowess, and his movies creating magic at the box office, with amazing sales of tickets.

Now, with his business ventures in the game of cricket, by becoming a franchisee owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, he has once again proved that he sure is the King of this business venture as well.

The IPL team KKR, had managed a staggering profit of Rs. 13 crores, in its first year and is almost sure to make three times that amount this year. But, King Khan reportedly has said that he has not purchased the IPL team for business ventures. This proposition is purely for fulfilling his passion for sports, and that too cricket.

As for his over flowing Bank Balance, he has hundreds of products to endorse, and a never ending line of films to work in. So, that takes care of his financial needs.

Thus, SRK is not much saddened by his IPL team’s defeats, nor is he very ecstatic when they win any match. This year, King Khan has surely showed his grit and determination in controlling his emotions while his team is playing for the tournament. His earlier emotional side is not much evident.

Thus, Shahrukh has conquered it all; he has shown to the world that he remains a King, no matter where he is, in bollywood or in the world of sports. Perhaps, the saying once a King always a King, does fit him in all respects!

Rs. 1 crore superhero suit for SRK!

Shahrukh Khan More PicsShah Rukh Khan had to enter a chamber filled with hot molten latex to create his superhero suit for Ra.One. The cost? A cool Rs 1 crore

It’s probably the most expensive body suit in Bollywood history, but Shah Rukh Khan will remember it for entirely different reasons.

Shah Rukh, who plays a superhero in the Anubhav Sinha directed Ra.One, will be seen in the special body suit which was custom made for him in Los Angeles. The process involved in creating that suit was something the actor had never experienced before.

He was required to lower himself wearing just the bare essentials into a 12X3 chamber while a very warm liquid latex-like material was gradually released in it till it reached his neck. Then it was allowed to solidify. Once the mould was formed, it was slit from the side and slowly peeled off Shah Rukh. The whole painful process took one hour. The two sides were later joined together with a concealed zipper.

The mould was then taken for further modifications to form the final suit he’ll be seen wearing in the film.

“The suit is steel blue in colour and made of a special material like reinforced latex, meant to provide both flexibility and protection. It acts as a tough exoskeleton to minimise external injury while being flexible enough not to hamper body movement while performing stunts. But it didn’t come cheap - the suit, fitted with micro-computer circuitry required for the film, cost nearly Rs 1 crore,” says a source.

Despite repeated attempts, both Shah Rukh and Anubhav Sinha remained unavailable for comment.

Shah Rukh Khan gives young ones tips for six-pack abs

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who flaunted six-pack abs in blockbuster “Om Shanti Om” but couldn’t maintain them later, is doling out fitness tips to youngsters through micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Six-pack more to do with diet than exercise alone. You need to be very disciplined. (Do it for) 30 to 40 days…they will start to show,” Shah Rukh posted on his Twitter page Monday.

“Exercise regimen – four times a week. Thirty minutes do a weights or any exercise which makes you sweat. No rice or bread at all with food, grilled food. Lots of water. No alcohol. If you do, then exercise (for) 50 minutes. No music and wasting time during exercise. Just do it like a job…push yourself.”

“No desserts, ice creams or colas. No food in between meals like chips, etc. Singlehandedly try and bring the junk food industry to closure,” he wrote.

Shah Rukh says he does 100 push ups and 60 pull ups when he is regular. “When I start I can only do five push ups and one pull up. It just happens (later) if you are regular,” he posted.

The actor, who was last seen in “My Name Is Khan”, is strictly against quick fix diets, and says people must make a careful choice about what they eat and drink.

“You make your choices according to your needs. When I work out I don’t drink colas myself.”

FICCI Frames Diary, Day 3

The last and final day at FICCI Frames didn't turn out to be as hectic and loaded with seminars as the previous ones, but certainly had quite a few high-profile dignitaries as speakers. It's safe to say it turned out to be a star studded finale of the three day event. Here are the highlights.

A panel discussion on 'User Generated Content' was an apt one following the discussions over evolving digital technologies over the past two days. The discussion was moderated by Neeraj Roy, CEO & MD, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, had a panel of senior executives from technology developers and content providers - discussing the impact user generated content will have on different mediums. The panel also discussed the room for growth in this arena and the technological advancements that need to hand-in-hand to support content creation.

Like the previous two days, there was another session dealing with the television industry. It's nice to see that FICCI has been giving TV equal importance as the film industry. Moderated by Jagdish Kumar, President South India, Star TV Pvt. Ltd., the panel on "Where is the profitability in the TV industry" consisted of COOs, CEOs and MDs of the major TV channels. The panelists busted some myths about the TV industry's revenue turnover and then proceeded to discuss the prospects and avenues they are trying to monetize for higher profitability.

A discussion on film marketing was next, where the panelist shed light on the innovative strategies utilized in the past to those which are in play currently. The use of handheld platforms and internet was highly stressed upon, especially since the recent times have seen many films being released over the internet. The panelists found that to be a safer medium and also a great profit earning move. The future of digital-exhibition in Indian theatres was also brought up. With the lower costs of distribution, releasing films has become considerably cheaper and will aid smaller budget films to find a release.

A key note address by Uday Shankar, CEO of Star India - was thronged by delegates.

As we drew closer to the evening, the major highlights of the day began to roll out. The session on 'Film Industry Anti-Piracy Coalition Launch', with personalities like Yash Chopra, Harish Dayani, Siddharth Roy Kapoor and Sandeep Bhargava on stage brought out alarming facts and figures to establish the magnitude of losses suffered by the Indian film industry due to piracy - an astronomical amount of close to 20,000 crores. Many reports have stated that a major chunk of this money earned by pirates goes on to fuel terrorism and anti-state activities. The film industry, it seems has decided to come together and fight this evil along with the help of the government.

The next discussion on a key topic - 'Entertaining India in the Next Decade' was moderated by NDTV'S Vikram Chandra and the panel consisted of actress Vidya Balan, theatre personality Sanjna Kapoor, music composers Vishal and Shekhar and Yash Chopra. Together they painted an optimistic image of the future as they saw potential in emerging talent which is going to be supported adequately with evolving technologies. The internet according to all of them will make content much more accessible to the masses and hence change the scenario all together - but not in away where it would replace film and theatre, but instead create a new genre of entertainment.

The valedictory session had Ambika Soni, I&B minister of India and Ashok Amritraj giving the keynote addresses. Ambika Soni spoke about her opinions on the issues raised in the last 3 days of FICCI and also discussed the actions she will take to resolve those issues. Most importantly she elaborated on what will be the steps the government will take to combat piracy.

FICCI Frames concluded with an award ceremony, which honored various personalities from the Indian media industry. The winners included big names that were present personally to collect the awards - Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Ranbir Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan. The award ceremony turned out to be a gala event, with music performances and short speeches.

There is nothing called crossover cinema, says SRK

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said he is averse to the usage of the term 'crossover cinema' and felt that Indian film industry requires to share expertise and knowledge from Hollywood rather than just focussing on monetary investments.

"There is no such genre called 'crossover cinema'. Slumdog Millionaire is not a Bollywood film nor is Monsoon Wedding... or Bend it like Beckham an Indian film. We in India need to forge alliances to share expertise and knowledge with Hollywood rather than just monetary investments," Shah Rukh said delivering a keynote address on 'New Connect between Hollywood and Bollywood' at the inaugural of FICCI-FRAMES Conference in Mumbai.

The actor-producer felt the science of marketing in Hollywood is worth learning.

"We can learn new aspects of film making from Hollywood without giving up our cinematic individuality because we are a self sufficient film industry," he said.

Shah Rukh said Hollywood looks at screenplay writing not as an art but as a science.

"It can help us in exchanging knowledge to develop screenplay writing in that manner," he said.

SRK roots for 'star system' in B-town

Tinsel town's unwritten "star system" has often been blasted by many filmmakers, saying it stops them from doing meaningful cinema.

But Shah Rukh Khan disagrees with the notion that a star-based system is detrimental for Indian cinema.

"Star system is good. You can do a study on any country without the star system and find out that the film industry of that particular nation died out," the actor says, justifying his point of view.

SRK says both India and the US have a thriving film industry and are two nations where cinema is based on a "strong star system". In other words, film stars in the two countries demand - and get - a whole lot of attention and money.

It's no wonder then that Shah Rukh is fine with the things as they are, considering he is Bollywood's biggest star himself.

In fact, Karan Johar recently remarked that going by the numbers, SRK was a bigger star than Hollywood actors such as Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

And why not, Shah Rukh is adored by over 3.2 billion people around the world while the fan base of Hollywood stars is just 2.7 billion, at the most.

Preview: Mumbai vs Kolkata, Match 17 Sachin & Sourav face off,

Both the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders are coming off losses after both of them had pleasant starts to their campaigns. For the Knight Riders though, the loss to the Rajasthan Royals was more serious than the Indians trip up to the Royal Challengers. The Knight Riders will be remembering their painful experiences of the previous two IPLs and will not want that defeat to have been the start of a downward spiral back to the hells of the bottom of the barrel.

If Chris Gayle has recovered from the fever that kept him out of the clash with the Royals, he is a shoe-in for the starting eleven. It's likely that Brad Hodge will sit out and now the omission of either the Australian or Owais Shah is justifiable because of the way Kolkata batted in their chase against the Royals. Despite having wickets in hand, they failed to keep up with a run rate that wasn't too demanding and will need someone who is not afraid of the likes of Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga.

Zaheer Khan has a reputation for dismissing left-handed openers, so if Gayle plays, he will have to be careful not to fall victim to the stereotype. Malinga may have Gayle's number as well and given how he struggled against Zimbabwe's spinners, even Harbhajan Singh may be sniffing Gayle's blood. There's no doubt that if he plays, he will be the man Mumbai target, because a quick-fire innings from him could do a lot to boost KKR's morale.

With the possibility of the spotlight turned on Gayle, Saurav Ganguly could use this match to worm his way back into the hearts of his own team's fans. They booed him at Ahmedabad and he has come under criticism for his inability to bat quickly enough. This time, he'll be away from the die hard Kolkata crowd and could use the Brabourne as an opportunity to make up for what fans see as his error filled ways.

In the bowling department, Kolkata will present the biggest challenge of the match when Shane Bond and Ishant Sharma come up against Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar. The Sri Lankan has yet to fire in the tournament but very rarely do the words Jayasuriya and poor form appear in the same sentence. He has a tough task ahead, because the opening pair of the KKR attack are unlikely to offer him any sympathy, but if he does see them off and capitalize he could finally "arrive" in this year's IPL.

Charl Langeveldt is still battling with his fitness so the rest of the KKR bowling responsibility will lie with Ashok Dinda, Murali Kartik, Angelo Matthews and Rohan Gavaskar, who is likely to come back into the side for Cheteshwar Pujuara. That might prove too much for a brittle Mumbai middle order made up of Aditya Tare, Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu. The hosts will need their West Indian contingent of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard to really step up a gear if they hope to make a dent into KKR's bowling attack. The two will also have to improve their bowling for Mumbai. They were badly exposed by Jacques Kallis in their previous match and went for 11.05 and 12.00 runs per over respectively.

KKR pulled off a famous win in Mumbai when they beat the Deccan Chargers in the first match of this year's competition. That's the only bit of history they have on their side. Mumbai beat them all four times in the previous two IPLs, three of those times comprehensively. Seven, eight and nine wicket wins showed the sheer disparity in the two teams' quality in the previous IPLs, with the last win being a sneaky nine-run victory for Mumbai. Mumbai have lost only one match out of three, while KKR have lost two in four. They have to call on their giant killing ways from their victories over Deccan and Bangalore and remember that slaying the Mumbai might will go a long way to getting their campaign back on track.

This match will also pit Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly against each other. Often called India's best opening pair in ODI history, the veterans will have to adjust to the faster nature of Twenty20s. While Tendulkar has done it superbly, Ganguly's struggles have been painful to watch. While he may be an inspirational captain, it is that much more difficult to inspire your troops if your own form is in the doldrums.

I’m rooting for SRK: Kangna

She neither follows sports news, nor has ever watched a T20 game. So, what made Kangna Ranaut go to Eden Gardens to watch SRK’s knights flight Dhoni’s kings?

You were recently spotted at Eden Gardens cheering SRK’s team on against Dhoni’s boys. What prompted you to go to the stadium?
The IPL fever is high and having never seen a T20 game before, I was quite interested in experiencing this myself. The event organisers had invited me to come for the match. I had the evening open. So, I decided to go.

How much of a cricket buff are you? Do you read the sports pages of a paper or rather follow the articles on sportstars that are published in the entertainment sections of newspapers?
Honestly, I’ve never been a sports person. My interests were always more inclined towards the arts — dancing, music, drama. I don’t follow sporting news either. But, I must say the match was very interesting and I found myself praying hard for Shah Rukh’s team, who I am really rooting for.

Do you understand the technicalities of the game? Can you tell between a third man and gulley?
I understand the game broadly and so can follow it. I understand how a batsman gets out, how runs are scored and the eventual goal of the game. But, the finer nuances are not something I’m so familiar with. I did really enjoy the match though I wish Team Kolkata had won!

With stars buying IPL teams, how difficult is the choice of deciding which team to root for?
I’ve not been following the matches per se or taking sides. But, I’m definitely cheering for Team Kolkata at the moment. And they’ve been playing so well this season. It’s early days yet, so fingers crossed!

Are IPLs also increasing the feelings of camps in Bollywood? Isn’t being present on the grounds for a particular star owner of an IPL team also an indication of who you are aligned to?
I have not experienced this really. I would definitely try and attend any event a friend invited me to if I did not have a prior commitment like a shoot or something.

There are matches being played in Himachal Pradesh. Do you plan to go there too? Have you ever played cricket as a child?
I have never played cricket, but I have heard that the Himachal grounds are stunning. I am shooting for six movies that release this year. So, it is an exceptionally busy time. I don’t think I will be able to attend those matches, but I would love to if I was free.

Cricketers today have a very hectic schedule with a lot of travel. Would you be game being in a relationship with someone with such hectic travel schedules? Or would you prefer someone who is more stationed since your own profession requires you to travel a lot and long distance relationships sometimes don’t work?
I don’t think you can choose who you are going to fall in love with. Each relationship has its own great aspects and challenges. So, I will take that as it comes and when it does.

If you are offered to do a film on women’s cricket, would the idea excite you?
I’d be interested in doing any good script with a good director, cast etc. It would really depend on the story. So, if it is a good script, sure why not?

SRK, Saif want to dance like Shahid!

Shahid Kapoor brought the house down when he paid a eight-minute tribute to pop icon Michael Jackson at the Filmfare Awards ceremony.

Not only was the audience up front spell bound by his perfect foot work and provocative mannerisms, it seems even the actors backstage were actually admiring Shasha. One little birdie says that actors — Shah Rukh Khan (who actually thinks Shahid is one of the finest young talents) and hold your breath, Saif Ali Khan, the emcees that night, were heard saying, “Arrey yaar this boy is so good. We must learn to dance like him.” At least for that night, Shahid found fans in-house too!

Rajasthan Royals elect to bat against Knight Riders

Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne won the toss and opted to bat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Rajasthan Royals would be desperately seeking to snap their three-match losing streak.

Despite Yusuf Pathan's hurricane 37-ball 100, 2008 champions Royals lost their opening match against Mumbai Indians.

They were done in by a Virender Sehwag special against Delhi Daredevils before a free fall against Royal Challengers Bangalore saw them slump to IPL 3 lowest total of 92.

Shane Warne's side, which has lost South African Graeme Smith and Englishman Dmitri Mascarenhas due to injuries, will have to come up with something special to arrest the slide.

New recruit Shaun Tait has been disappointing so far leaking runs and the Jaipur-based side will have to think whether to continue with the Australian fast bowler.

The Knight Riders, on the other hand, began IPL 3 with a bang with two consecutive wins, against defending champions Deccan Chargers and last edition runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore, only to suffer a comprehensive loss at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.

The Knight Riders though will be strengthened by the return of swashbuckling West Indies batsman Chris Gayle who joins the side and either of Brad Hodge or Manoj Tiwary will have to drop down the order.

Teams (From):

Kolkata Knight Riders: Sourav Ganguly (capt.), Ajit Agarkar, Shane Bond, Ashok Dinda, Eklak Ahmid, Rohan Gavaskar, Brad Hodge, Varun Aaron, Chris Gayle, Iqbal Abdulla, Murali Kartik, Harshad Khadiwale, Charl Langeveldt, Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis, Chirag Pathak, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Owais Shah, Ishant Sharma, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Manoj Tiwary, Ganapathi Vignesh.

Rajasthan Royals: Shane Warne (capt.), Swapnil Asnodkar, Johan Botha, Faiz Fazal, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Kamran Khan, Michael Lumb, Damien Martyn, Morne Morkel, Sumit Narwal, Naman Ojha (wk), Munaf Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Paunikar, Syed Quadri, Abhishek Raut, Amit Singh, Shaun Tait, Siddharth Trivedi, Amit Uniyal, Shrikant Wagh.

SRK clarifies stand on Ra.One-Raavan controversy

Call it ‘Ra.One’ or ‘Raavan’, it sounds the same. But that has become a matter of concern for Shah Rukh Khan who is all set to start his first science-fiction superhero film Ra.One soon.

Shah Rukh is amazed that his fans are confusing the title ‘Raavan’ with ‘Ra.One’. However SRK decided to clear it once and for all. “Abhishek's ‘Raavan’ is different from our ‘Ra.One’. Our film will release later this year. It’s very different from Mani sir’s Raavan,” said SRK.

Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming film Raavan is a modern version of Ramayana that stars Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan in lead role. While ‘Ra.One’ will be directed by Anubhav Sinha and will star Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena in lead roles. It will be produced by Shah Rukh Khan under his home production Red Chillies Entertainment.

SRK is aware that this unusual title is creating curiosity among his fans. He is also planning to launch a website soon before the film goes on floors so that his fans can get more information about his first superhero film. ‘Ra.One’ will commence on 20th March

Bipasha loves SRK, Gauri

Bipasha Basu says she adores Shah Rukh Khan. So what is news in this? Every girl in Bollywood likes him. Bipasha also loves Gauri Khan.

She says Gauri is the classiest star wife she has met. Bips recently requested SRK to do a small interview for her fitness video. And she was blown away by the hospitality given to her by Gauri and SRK. While SRK was recording his bit for Bips’ video, Gauri played the perfect hostess. And when the sexy Bong actress left Mannat that day, SRK had added one more name to his long list of fans.

Kareena, the yummy mummy!

The glamorous Kareena Kapoor has always been stylishly put together on screen and will now play a glam mother to an eight-year-old in Anubhav Sinha’s Ra.One.

A source reveals, “Kareena doesn’t want to be styled in the stereotypical mould of a mother. She plays a modern mum, and Manish Malhotra will design her look accordingly. She will be seen in extremely glamorous outfits.”

After all, why should mothers look dowdy and defeated? The source continues, “Her look is ultra chic and her wardrobe will include the trendiest outfits. She will be seen in short dresses, skirts and tight fitting tops.

She had a word with Manish and he will dress her in the latest summer/ spring collection.”

Manish Malhotra, Kareena’s favourite designer, says, “The film is based in London and she needs to be dressed keeping in mind the avatar of a modern mother.”

SRK means India for Cameron

When James Cameron sat on the couch with Koel Poorie for her TV show, Shah Rukh and Aamir were just some of the many things he knew about India

We all want to know what’s the first thing you said to your ex-wife (Kathryn Bigelow) after she won the Oscar.
(Laughs) I don’t remember exactly. Actually, she got up and went on stage, and then they go backstage, and I didn’t see her again for the rest of the night.

What about the famous picture of you strangling her?
That was before the ceremony. We decided to just give the press the photo op they were looking for.

Of course, the truth is that you both are friends?
Yes, and we made a promise to each other to just have fun that night.

You like powerful women both on and off camera...
Absolutely.

What marriage are you on? Fifth now? When James Cameron sat on the couch with Koel Poorie for her TV show, Shah Rukh and Aamir were just some of the many things he knew about India
I’m on my last marriage now.

Oh, that’s a lovely way of putting it ... You’ve been married the longest to Suzie?
I think when we were on our 4th or 5th anniversary, and this was 5 years ago, I said we’ve officially been married longer than all my other marriages put together, so she liked that.

What does the word avatar mean to you? It is a Hindu word for us also ...
Of course, and we don’t even pronounce it correctly in the west. I understand the traditional roots of the word, which is that it is the descent or incarnation of a divine being in the flesh. Of course, that was the significance in the film, although the characters are not divine beings. But the idea was that they take flesh in another body. ‘Avatar’ is a term that’s now widely in use, as we all know, in cyber space, relating to second life, alter ego and things like that.

A lot of your references rang true from the Hindu context. Was that intentional or a happy accident? Did you know that Hinduism is a self-interpreting, non dogmatic religion?
I didn’t, I’m not a practising Hindu. I’m certainly familiar with a lot of beliefs of the Hindu religion; I find it quite fascinating. I tried to make a film that would touch people’s spirituality across the broad spectrum.

So it’s definitely open to self-interpretation?
Yes, exactly. And everybody sees the film through the own lens of their life.

This fascinating world that you created, for me it was, sort of seeing things underwater. And you’re a very keen diver as well. Is that where it’s coming from, or is it a lot of drugs?
(laughs) Not drugs... at least I’m not gonna admit to anything... not since my college days.

It was very trippy...
I have spent 3000 hours underwater (diving). Also, I was a teenager in the 60s. So there were lot of black light posters around and so on. But the underwater part of it, I think it’s my love of nature in general. By the way, a major part of it is having great artistes from all over the world, all feeding into one big pool of imagination... that’s where these images come from.

Would Pandora be quite close to your idea of an ideal world?
No, I think Pandora is kind of a fictionalised fantasy version of what our world was like, before we started to pave it and build malls, and shopping centres. So it’s really an evocation of the world we used to have.

How much do you know of Bollywood?
Very little, because our films tend not to penetrate here that much, and Bollywood films tend not to penetrate in the American market that much. It’s almost like two different worlds to a large extent, but that’s changing.

From our perspective, you make something which we term as ‘masala films’ which are blockbusters, all of Bollywood is about masala films...
You like the epics.

We are all about big scale, emotions and manipulation...
So you get it, you guys get what I like to do...

I’m going to say a word to you, tell me what comes to mind. India...
For me, it’s fantasy.

Shah Rukh Khan.
Giant movie star.

You know him?
Absolutely.
How does it make you feel that this giant movie star, Shah Rukh Khan, has called us up to say, please get a T2 poster signed by you?
I’m more than happy to sign it, if he’ll sign a poster for me!

Oh! What poster? You’d have to see one of his films...
My Name Is Khan. How about that?

Aamir Khan?
He is the other big movie star. All the big movie stars here are named Khan – is this a designation or a name?
People change their names just to come in that category!

Shahrukh Khan Bollywood’s top taxpayer!

Shahrukh Khan is again the highest Bollywood’s tax payer. Though last year it was Akshay Kumar securing the first position, according to reports, this year it’s SRK who is on top for the financial year 2009-2010.

Among actresses the top taxpayer is Kareena Kapoor, with her brand Kareena going strong and with the success of her last film 3 Idiots. No doubt, the lady is among the top earners of Bollywood.

And as she tells a tabloid, “It’s been a great year for cinema and a great year for me in every way. I am happy to have pleased my fans and the public.”

Last year, Kareena paid Rs 3.7 crore while SRK gave Rs 30.99 crore. This year’s numbers are yet to come.

SRK 'chirrups', KJo blames Twitter!

he’s got dark circles and stays up all night, don’t tut-tut Shah Rukh Khan. Simply blame his buddy Karan Johar. For he’s the man who introduced King Khan to sleepless nights.

So while Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan prefer an online presence for their stars, SRK tweets away. All thanks to media’s darling KJo. The Khan doesn’t deny this either; he says, “Karan forced me to join in. Actually, I’m not very good at replying, I’m not social and I’m quite reclusive. I don’t SMS, I don’t talk too much on the phone, and I’m proud of it. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve spent so much time dealing with people, loving people, being with people; that there are times I want to be alone and don’t want to share anything with anyone. My wife and kids give me that time. Over the years I’ve become more like this and people think I’m being socially incorrect. So I didn’t want to be part of a socially interactive space where I didn’t know what to say. But recently, I tried it and found that people have been so warm and loving. Of course, some stupid people feel I must’ve gone there to promote my films. Again, I’m saying this; I don’t need to promote my films like this.” Kudos to KJo. And must say, such a ‘tweet’ friend this one is.

Shah Rukh Khan bigger brand for KKR than Saurav Ganguly? Ajay Jadeja

It was by far the most entertaining discussions to have happened on day one of FICCI Frames 2010. Former Cricketer Ajay Jadeja, Former Hockey striker Viren Rasquinha and actor Rahul Bose got together to discuss the amalgamation of Sports and Entertainment today.

Ajay began the conversation by saying how Bollywood has acted as the icing on the cake for IPL. “IPL will survive because people like Cricket but Bollywood had a strong role to play in its success” said the charming Cricketer. He further dared to elaborate his opinion by giving a hypothetical example. “If Shah Rukh Khan chooses to leave KKR tomorrow, it will definitely be a bigger dent to the franchise and IPL as a whole than a Saurav Ganguly leaving KKR. Today, Shah Rukh Khan is certainly a bigger brand than Ganguly but say a few years back in 2003, things were different. Ganguly then spoke with his bat and today it doesn’t happen much. Bollywood has brought glamour to the game and it has widened the reach of the game. Today more ladies watch the game because they like Shah Rukh and they spot him sitting in the stands watching his team play. Bollywood has certainly expanded the audiences of the game. “

Last year in the second season of the IPL when SRK and his coach had asked Ganguly to step down as the captain of KKR, it had created a huge furor in the country with the majority backing Ganguly and not SRK. Then many believed Shah Rukh shouldn’t interfere in Cricket no matter how big a star he was.

Ajay’s comments were thus surprising. Ajay was neither diplomatic nor was mincing words fearing a supposed controversy that his statements might trigger.
